Just had payback #1 on the hinged clam. MOT is due this week and since getting the car back together with hinged clam the eml and the abs light have both been on so needed sorting. I decided to do the eml first. Got one of those bluetooth OBD readers and to my amazement after 30 secs of fiddling it worked and told me I had a P0100 - AMM issue. Did lots of research and decided to do some continuity testing before going out and getting a new AMM. So 2 mins in and the back is up and I am tracing wires. Turns out there is no 12v going to the AMM which sounds like a continuity issue. After tracing the loom across to the other side of the car I came across a split in the loom. After exiting the cockpit te loom passes past the fuel separator and then under the subframe strut and then splits. One part going on to I think the O2 sensor and the other going some the side of the subframe to the ABS on the drivers rear wheel. Looks like a cable tie was missing and it had been rubbing on the engine support and worn through. The 12v to the AMM and the ABS sensor both rubbed through. So 2 problems solved for the price of one!!! Without the hinge I would have been 2 to 3 hrs in and then starting the fix plus rebuild. I'll fix the loom tomorrow and then another 2 mins to latch the clam back and we are done. Of course there are a lot more of them needed to get full payback on time but at least it's a start. Wife doesn't seem as appreciative as me. Maybe she can't count properly or something. I would've interested to know how much more people would access the car just because they didn't have to take off the clam.
