I was just wondering if anyone had fitted an emergency release for the engine cover - so that it could be opened if the cable snapped or came undone?

Under the front cover, I've attached a wire, such that if the o/s wheel arch cover were removed, then a pull of the wire hidden behind it would open the lid . Can't see how that could happen at the back tho.

any thoughts ?

Could be done in the same way at the back. It seems that every time I remove the bootlid from the car, the next time its closed it doesn't re-open.  Got quite good at getting it open from within the wheel arch with some mole grips to clamp the mech together, and hey presto it clicks open again...

easy to do just attach so it will 'pull' towards the NS rear arch and there are plenty of places to attach a pull cord to on the subframe behind the arch liner :)

I think Vocky moved his permanently to a lock on the rear clam by the numberplate.  Not quite an 'emergency' release as such but a good alternative to consider.
