so I am really unhappy with the way my car is mapped.

The things it does:

If half way up the revs, I will put my foot down a little bit, nothing will happen then I get a SURGE of power. My foot hasn't moved at this point.

When I take my foot of the throttle, then back on, I get annoying hesitation

When accelerating hard, I get massive kick of power, then it dies away

The end feeling is not the confident building.

I put it all down to a remap. Its had a stage 2 and custom exhaust, apparently. So my question is, where can I take it so someone can map it properly.

Who's mapped it? Most people use mmg performance or Courtney's

When you say half way up the revs at what revs exactly are you finding the problem? You shouldn't have any lag as the turbo should spool up pretty low down do there shouldn't really be any lag

Mmg ftw thumbsup

I'll help Mmg relieve you of some pennies   If you have the exhaust (and cat) pre cat replacement airbox mod, iridium spark plugs then it should be as simple as a remap. I think liam would want to check the car first to make sure there are no issues before remapping.

When I had Mmg stage 2 I got 258bhp :)

It's quite possible the map is not the best, but the problem sounds quite dramatic for a "stage 2", so more likely is some sort of minor leak/problem at a guess.

the boost just comes in on spikes

yeah it could be that. I have all the uprated hoses etc. I noticed the one going into the throttle body bit has a few not pretty looking gashes. This is the Inlet -> going down to intercooler. Where can I get a uprated one from?

what does the air box look like?

Im not sure. I know there is a lot of "woooosh" noise coming from it. So its probably had the trumpets removed. Maybe the last owner drilled holes in it, I'll have a look. I read on the forums that modded air boxes can really upset the ecu?

Like I said.  Liam would want to check over the car for any issues.  And he's not the sort of person to make stuff up.  It could just be a crap map.

Sounds like you have exactly the same sort of power delivery as my car. Mine has strong boost until it drops off around 3250rpm, and then comes in really strong after 4000rpm. There are a couple of strange noises like a ticking and a blowing exhaust joint but nothing serious. SteveA checked my recirc valve and I have since checked the boost solenoids so I have come to the same conclusions there is a split hose not evident on tickover or the map done by the previous owner is a cheap generic flash remap. The power graph that came with the car shows it making 222bhp but with a definate dip in the curve.

I have approached two companies locally to me for a remap, but I think I have thrown them when I said I don't want big power numbers just the power dip smoothing out. They both seem a bit unsure if their map will do this and hence why they haven't phoned back; so I guess they are just offering a flash remap bought in from a third party.

My next step is going to be RS tuning in Leeds who charge a bit more but I think should produce the results I want.

I had a look at boost pipe couldnt see any holes. Maybe I should do a boost test and see if I can hear any leaking air.

That's interesting Ebo100, sounds you we are in the same boat. I am putting mine down to the shoddy map. I should check my recirc valve and boost solenods (don't know how though!), will do a forum search.

I don't want a bought in map, I'd like someone to map it who knows the car and ecu. Let me know how you get on RS tuning if you can dude :)

You might find this helpful reading (its still work in progress BTW, so is rather scrappy): https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing

Once you've read that, inspect/check all the constituent parts, I would guess that something is broken/disconnected/not working and might be easily remedyable.

I personally would go to Courtenays as you are relatively near them benign Cambridge. They would get it on the rollers and remap it for you.

its probably not the map , more like mechanical wear and tear. When did you last change the plugs and coilpack , service items, solenoids, actuator ?

I could read your map, and then show you the torque demand is not stepped , bit of a forum myth.
