Hi
Just got an email advertising these tyres
http://www.jjcracean...,6J2ZCX,69E0W,1
they seem to be in the right sizes for us 205/55/R16 and 225/45/R17 and are a nice price
anyone use them or are they brand new?

looks like the tread block will move about a lot

Looks like it will have better wet performance.
disagree. The centre bands don't connect to the outer bands so water displacement over the centre section is limited by the volume of the three tread lines.

For the record. I have had appalling service from JJC and that alone would make me think twice about getting these tyres.

Federal RS-R's are similar prices but are a known quantity with regards to performance, have a larger size range, and are pretty good in the wet (if that's what your looking for).

I didnt look propperly, i thought they were connected. Still, having them 3 bands have got to be better than no bands for wet weather, at least the water goes into the gap rather than squashed between the tyre and surface like on a r888.disagree. I'm not sure you can really determine wet weather performance from the shape, size and quantity of the water channels. The water channels are (as I understand it) primarily to help prevent aqua-planning through large puddles or standing water. If the road is merely wet (as they typically are), compound, tyres width and actual surface are of rubber vs. rain channel area would surely be more important.
Some semi-slicks over better wet performance than tranditional road tyres in the wet, but obviously this grip falls off a cliff when you hit that puddle, as it cannot displaces sufficient water.

personally I'm not planning to drive in the rain ever again
gone are the days where the vx220 was my commuter car
if no-one has tried them they may be excellent or completely shiht
the only info I found was a guy with a clio 182 who said they were good

Having been involved in the sale of >100k tyres over the last 15 years, one thing I can tell you for certain is you cant tell diddly squat about a tyres performance based on cosmetics

But you usually can by the cost

how does the cost of rubber change , the rest must be marketing

Well, a reputable rubber manufacturer who can guarantee to make rubber with the same properties time and time again vs a poor manufacturer who's product quailty varies by day can command a different premium. Tried and tested vs unknown. Demanded vs new to the market. etc etc. Doesn't just boil down to how much marketing companies do
