At the end of the Dijon track day I suddenly had no boost. It appeared my actuator bar had broken. On close inspection today it seems to have just come apart at the joining bit in the middle. It seems to screw back in.

However the wastegate valve was stuck solid open. A tap with a hammer has freed it but if I let it go fully open (drop downwards) it sticks again.

Maybe it stuck in this position causing the actuator bar to come apart? Or is it sticking cause it is going back too far?  Maybe the actuator coming apart forced the waste gate to far and its sticks when pushed back that far?

So what to do. Just put it all back again and see what happens?

Get new actuator - it seems to be working ok using a bike pump.

Has anyone else had issues with stuck open waste gates? What could cause this? some pictures to illustrate:

Are you sure its sticking ? if its a butterfly valve and there is a lot of dirt in it , then it would tend to stick in the closed position if pushed against the stop . I'd be tempted to try a bit of spray lube, re-assemble  and see what happens, those actuators can provide a lot of force  ( something ike 30ib pull).

use a bit of locktite on the connecting bush

better advice may follow !

To fully confirm downpipe off to look at whats catching and reason. You may find with actuator on it will not open as far to catch if its just catching grind a touch off the inside those crappy brass centre bits had me machining a better one at snetterton many years back when mine snapped and lucky to find local unit with tool amd scrap to make a new one DG

You can see how close the waste gate gets to the casting, if it goes too far it can get jammed up,

I played about with an old unit and the valve would open until it hit the casting where it somehow jammed.  I snapped the valve trying to free it off with my Birmingham screwdriver.  The valve was not forced open, but did not want to close.

I would assume adjuster has come loose, allowed the valve to open too far and jam.

there is quite a lot of play in the pivot point , so its quite possible that the push and pull action causes it to jam in one direction

actually I have one of those jointed bar actuators that I bought from dw1 , which I won't be using since I have seen too many of these fail. Has the threaded bar snapped in the joining section?
