No problem, send me a PM and we can work out a good time, usually after 4.30 week days.

Had mine fitted at the weekend after 9 years suffering that sh*t useless heater. I can safely say my face nearly melted off on the way home, fantastic mod worth every penny, will especially be in the colder months. Grab one while they are still available and get it installed before it gets cold is my advice!!

Add me to the list big boy, I've yet to experience this shite heater, but I feel bad for Smeg having the house cluttered with a production line of heaters!

See you at 10.30. I'll bring the biscuits.

BTW, I haven't got the spring cups so that should make your day a little less busy!

Also posted in the Guides and Tutorials section, but thought I may as well cover all bases.

Currently in the process of fitting mine.  The old unit was an absolute pig to get out (I thought removing the battery was a pain - until now).

Anyway, I'm loving the modular design of the new unit, makes it so much easier to fit, however I've come up with a wiring issue.  I seem to have too may wires:

The connector from the loom splits into two parts:

These two wires connected into the old fan:

Do I just cut the black wire from the spur and connect it into the spare socket on the connector from the loom and get rid of the remaining wire completely?

Thanks.

Too late, as I'm sure you've worked out you need the plug further up the wiring loom

Yep - all finished off yesterday (along with some other bits and pieces).

Took the time to properly seal up the dash with sealant too thumbsup

The new unit is in another league from the OEM (read shite) heater.

The hardest part was definitely getting the old unit out as it fouls on the clips for the loom so there was a fair amount of swearing there!

The quality is very good - much better than the OEM unit.

Install of the new kit was dead easy as its modular design means it's easy to get in through the restricted access.  I taped the allen bolts to the end of my allen key to ensure I didn't lose them when fitting - worked a treat.  As soon as they started to bite, just pulled the tape off and did them up as usual.

I love the new simple connector for the temperature - one black plug thingy (technical term there) is much easier to plug in than the earlier versions, which look (from the install guide) like they needed to be wired in separately.  The plug fits perfectly through the hole in the dash (well thought out).  I routed mine through the hole behind the binnacle as it keeps the lead away from the battery side (useful for when battery removal is needed).

It starts blowing out the warm stuff very quickly and there is loads more air pushed through the vents.  This is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can have for your VX - assuming you don't SORN it over the winter poof

It is much less hassle to just pull out one of the loom clips. Then put a cable tie through the two holes to secure afterwards.

Remember to stretch your hamstrings before starting.

Spoken like a man who's done two!

I use a large screwdriver i've dubbed 'The persuader' to get it past the loom clips. But that might be because i've fitted around 50 and have god-like hamstrings.

Tom I think I was missing a jubilee clip for the slinky duct thing. What size is it? I will get one no point you going to trouble of posting a clip. I used a cable tie for now but it don't grip well.

I've actually stopped supplying them with it because the hose should grip well enough on the foam (same as the OEM approach - although maybe I shouldn't be following design approaches for the OEM heater!) the hose radius is 83 mm, so a 90-70 or 100-80 clip will do.
