On my tubby been having a slight problem with intermittent boost. I've had it mapped, but it seems to have developed a slight flat spot at 3000rpm and 4000rpm. It's not always noticeable, and is normally only slight, a bit like the standard turbo flat spot, but very occasionally it comes completely off boost then boosts straight away, like you have lifted off the throttle and put it straight back down again. Sometimes it doesn't seem to do it at all.

Reading up on here, I'm wondering if it is worth changing the boost control solenoid, but was after some second opinions?

its a 55557806 if you want to search for prices

or its not that expensive anyway,

if its not that , then the actuator might need replacing.

do you still have the original large black rubber pipe feeding to the turbo

Yes, the original pipe is still there, but I have had a squeeze and it feels pretty solid.

Could be the boost control solenoid sticking - we had this on a different turbo car where the power delivery became a bit "surgy".

Eventually the solenoid stuck open and the car overboosted, but it took a long time to get to that.

Might be worth getting it off and cleaning the inside out with carb cleaner or something similar.

As it's not too expensive, and looks reasonably easy to fit myself, I've just ordered a new boost control solenoid, so will see if this improves things. Could this be caused by an old solenoid and the remap, as I presume the turbo would be running higher boost?

It is a bit fiddly, I took the heatshield and engine lid off.  It made the whole job MUCH easier.

The spring clips that hold the hoses on are a pain but you soon work out a method of getting them off.

Where is it, I've seen one person say it's at the rear of the engine:

and someone else say it's on the front, so you have to remove the pipe running to the turbo?

the boost control solenoid is attached to the turbo by two bolts, located immediately next to the wastegate actuator ( both use same bracket ). If you remove the turbo intake pipe and just fold it out of the way (cover over the turbo to stop any stray objects falling in)
