I'm getting some new dampers soon, and whilst it's being done I thought it might be worth getting one of the uprated toe link kits from VX220 Parts or Elise Shop (I'm pretty sure the originals are still on the car, and it's done 60k so they're due to be replaced anyway). I don't have grippy tyres yet but I would've thought it's an almost inevitable mod at some point, with Bridgestone fronts becoming something of a rarity.

Does anyone have any strong feelings about which toe link kit is the better?

I noticed VX220 Parts has two options for the outboard joint, parallel or tapered, and recommends you check which one is on your car. From what I can gather though, the parallel joints are fitted to all models from 2003 onwards with the tapered joints being used prior. Is that a hard and fast rule? My car was built at the back end of 2001 so should in theory have a tapered joint. Does the lack of such an option for Elise Shop's kit mean it is more difficult to fit? Not that it will be me fitting it, but I would rather something that is a direct swap for the original part.

Any advice gratefully received!

This may be a stupid question, but where do you get Spitfire stuff from? I'd had a search in Google but it just turned up threads on here.

Spitfire kit is/was available from Elise-Shop, it's there more expensive version.

The cheaper kit from Elise-Shop comes with parts suitable for both tapered and parallel options.

You've got a number of options, all seem decent. I have the spitfire and the spitfire brace bar which are designed to work together i.e. the spitfire brace bar only works with spitfire toe links. I have both and am a big fan of the brace bar. With brace bars you need to be careful they fit under the exhaust. What exhaust do you have?

I'm due to have mine (brace bar) fitted by cornering force and I believe its been altered slightly so it fits with an aftermarket exhaust....well this is the case with mine :)

Other way around..

Pre-2003 cars have parallel joints.

Later cars (and virtually all tubby's) have tapered joints.

However... If any repairs have been done in the past or Lotus found some bits in a parts bin it may have different ones installed. Some reports of cars with both types on the same car as well!

If yours is a 2001 and has not had any repairs in this area then is very linkely that it's the parallel connection type in the upright.

Bye, Arno.

Hmmm, Yvo sent a bag of bits to cure the play in mine, had play in three of the four ends.  Another 'improvement' I wished I had never bothered with.

I think it was the uprated toe link bar that bent the chassis on the crashed car I looked at. So you hit the curb or something whith the rear wheel the super strong link set up will not snap, it twists the mounting point and another scrap car. Or am I talking bollocks as usual ? it just looked like that to a non expert.

just the rear subframe , not the chassis
