So, in light of my recent insurance quote for an agreed value, I thought I'd put it out there for discussion...

 

Spec of my car is as follows:

What would I expect to pay for a car of that spec? What would someone pay me for my car if I were to sell?

 

Thoughts?

It depends how you look at it I.e if you was to sell it on the current market it would be x number but to replace it like for like it would be more than x 17-18?

I would think the sale price would be around the £10k mark, but to replace it 'like for like' would be around £18k  :unsure:

I would say £12500 minimum ;-) especially with the miles it's got .

I think it's actually 17,800 or there abouts Foxy :lol:

 

I bought it in 2011 with 12k, SC'd it and have then done 3k a year, including a Le Mans trip in 2012

If it helps mines rather similar but with 56k miles (I think).  I put in two valuations (at 15k) to classic line (as they requested) and they refused it saying they will only value it at 12.5k tops.  I now have an agreed value of 12.5k.

i would say around 12.5k too.

 

you would pay that for a good clean tubby. your car is more of a specialist tool which will be appreciated by those who know their onions, but that also means, they know the market that the cars sit in.

 

you're not going to get your money back, but it's going to be one hell of a car for someone to buy.

I would sell the wheels, suspension, disc and PA tank separately (I would be interested on the PA tank lol ) and still get 12.5 k for it.

Difficult to answer... For example does a car with metallic paint have a greater value in a write off situation because it cost more, or has fancy blingy wheels. I always understood valuations to be 'what you could sell it for' and therefore labour rates would not count. The VX is one of only a few cars where you actually get anything back for purchased mods. Often it devalues your car. Personally I would have thought £13.5k - £14.5k would be fair given the spec list and low mileage.

Similar spec to what mine was before this rebuild...if i was to sell id have wanted 12.5k minimum...for the insurance value (considering the amount you have spent) id be saying 17.5k+

 

IMO you did the right thing regards value...however i dont know the logistics/rules of the agreed value enough

The agreed value concept does imply truly replacing like for like, and in this case means building again.... So a high price circa £15k+ is a wise move if they will go for it.

Price it up as if you had to replace.

Could you go out and buy one the same, no.

 

So work out an average vx with average millage and then put on top what it would cost. My agreed value on mine is very high, but I would be unable to replace mine, so I looked at cars of a similar spec. At the end of the day, you can say your value and then you pay your premium for this (within the boundaries of reason). As vocky says, you could put down 18k, but I would say £14500 would be a reasonable amount if you had to build one again in the event of a total loss.
