Just spotted this on ebay. These things only weight 115kg, they make the NA look like a lard arse

Would love to see one in a VX

You have to do a lot more to a 2zz than you do to a z22 to make them as reliable.

115kg is a bare engine. Add 10kg at least for a complete engine. Then it's not far off a Z22SE.

... but apart from the Z22Se being a lot better, the marginal weight improvement, the fact that this is a bare engine, the huge expense of making it reliable and the utterly unreliable gearboxes, this seems like a great idea, no?

:D

Yota engines seem like a good idea when you've had your 4th hgf on a k series but I'm sure they wouldn't have been Lotus' first choice.

They came as a second choice to the K-series lump. I was surprised that Lotus didn't use the Honda VTECs, as in many ways they are the spiritual successor to the K-series engine.

I weighed my old 2.2 engine and it came in at 103 Kg without ancillaries  :P

Honda was the first choice on the s2 but they didn't convince honda their cheques wouldn't bounce! Hence the relatively easy k20 conversions.

No they seem like a good Idea when you know how much Toyota charged Lotus for them, and the fact the K series wasn't Euro Iv whatever it was back then

This is what you really want - a bit more expensive I know much just imagine:-

I think it fits cos they put it in the Exige (The Exige S V6)

We can but dream

The S3 exige is longer and wider than the previous versions. Not sure if this effect the engine bay dimensions though

It's not just about weight, it's more to do with power:weight that is important IMO. Also, extra weight over the rear axle can help if you are bold, and can adjust to weight transfer depending on whether you are accelerating/deaccelerating.

The Exige V6 is huge in comparison, so I very much doubt that it would fit.

Fits easy enough. I emailed MWR last year to see if they were planning selling a swap 'kit' to fit the Exige / Elise, but they had no plans to. They do sell a conversion kit to install the 5-speed MR2 turbo gearbox (E153 - very strong) into the S2 chassis, and that V6 engine 2GR-FE bolts directly to the MR2 gearbox (there's a few MR2s running this engine now - I had one briefly..), so in theory there is some parts available to fit it, but MWR said they weren't confident it positions the engine correctly with that specific kit, although I think they just didn't want to have a kit available so they can offer in-house conversions (which they do) http://www.monkeywre....php?pages_id=5
