I've had GGP mk2 shocks on my car for a year or so with 425lb front and 475lb rear springs. They're great on track days but I really find them too hard on the road. The ride is too compromised on the road for me. I emailed Gaz about springs and they suggested 325lb front and 400lb rear springs which they can supply for £80 plus the vat. Am tempted to try this but before I did just thought I'd ask if anyone had any thoughts/advice etc. Cheers.

Sure the damping isn't set too high rather than spring rates?  IIRC there are a lot of people running those sorts of poundages on the road without issue.

Yeah I've backed the damping gradually down to almost fully soft and it's still way too hard for me. On the track it's good and I run about midway ish on the damping adjustment scale for track and back it right off again on road. If I forget to adjust the damping back after a trackday it's virtually un drivable and I pull over within a mile of leaving the track to adjust them. Really do think I need softer springs for a better compromise.

I am interested in this too.

Yes I'm getting old I think. (Before anybody else mentions it.  :) )

Think I'm running 275F and 350R and the ride is very OEM which is exactly what I was after. Very happy with mine. thumbsup

Yes can't make head nor tale of the print out I've got either.

I run the same & the car is very quick on track, extra feedback & control are wonderful.

MILES better than the old 425/475 setup

Cant recommend this setup highly enough for road & track

if they're still in good condition then they'll be printed on the side of the springs.

the graphs are the damper dyno plts, fcuk all to do with springs.

I ran nickles on silly silly hard springs with minimal damping and it was lovely

Thanks Tom,I will have a look, they've only been on ten months which in mileage terms for me is about 1000 miles max.think I'm gonna set the shocks on the softest setting and stiffen them up if need be. (Sorry to hi jack thread, just didn't wanna start another "shocks/suspension"thread.)

Matt Bently recommended a 100 - 125lb split so 300 - 400 or 275 - 400. I will be going softer when they need a referb. An upgraded anti-roll bar will reduce the increased roll from the softer springs

Steve - have you made the switch yet?

I have my Gaz's off at the mo and want to send them off for a refresh and was also thinking my current setup is too hard for the ever worsening roads I have round my way.  I'm currently on 425 / 525 for my tubby and want to go softer.

Hi. Yeah I've changed the springs now. Went from 425/475 to 325/400 (NA car with SC). It's better but if I'm honest there's still issues. It is still really crashy over anything but undulating bumps. I've got an ongoing issue where the fronts are only 10mm off the bump stops when car is sat static. My suspicion is this is contributing a lot to the crashy ride. I was playing with damper settings again over the weekend. I set them all to 17 clicks off full hard (about 20 clicks total adjustment). Rear was way too wallowy. So went 2 clicks up on the rear. If just bouncing the car noticed one side was pretty firm, other side was really soft. Got fed up, gave up. Tempted to put the standard billies back on. Or get someone who knows more about these shocks and suspension in general to look at it for me.

worth knowing 17 clicks from hard on one damper will not not be the same as 17 clicks from hard on another.... that's why you have dyno plots, you will find a difference between 1-4 clicks from side to side I guess (unless you pay mega money for dampers where tolerances are obviously tighter).

Steve have you tried raising the car by 10mm all round. My gold pros are set at 125 - 135 and I still think it looks too low. With so little bump at the front you will never get it right. Can you cut down the bump stops?

Should BHP come into consideration when deciding on the spring rates?  I have a stg 4 tubby so would I need stiffer springs on the rear to accommodate the squatting down of the rear?

Also, if I go for softer springs but set the ride height exactly the same as before, would I need another geo?

Another Fredrik here in Sweden had some issues with his bumpstop and rideheight and changed his front dampers to a slightly different design. The rods where shorter, but the housing where longer. In the en the whole damper was shorter but allowed more travel. He had a chat with Gaz and they solved it together some way.
