Hi I've tried searching but my issue doesn't seem to be listed. I've lost my sidelights, though the switch has a nice click and the lights come on when I put the headlamps on. I checked the fuses and ordered a new switch and tried that but still nothing. I then (being stupid) swapped the headlight and sidelight switches to see if that made a difference and it did - I now have no headlights either!!! Again the fuses look ok, I'm not sure how I test the relays. Basically the lights won't come on, switches aren't lit up, the full beam won't work when pushed away (but flashes fine), and there's no open door warning any more. Can anyone shed some, ahem, light on the situation?

I am clutching a straws slightly and am certainly no auto-electrician but...

One would assume that the fuse is rated such that if there was a short, it would blow the fuse rather than bugger the switch... but maybe...

Short blew sidelight switch

Replaced sidelight switch, short blew it again

Replaced sidelight switch with headlight switch, blew that too

Could be total utter rubbish but...

Maybe disprove me by swapping the headlight switch out for the foglight switch... if that works... then maybe I ain't so daft?

Sounds like a plan, only thing is I think the fogs need the sidelights to work don't they? I could try taking the front fog out and putting into the main beam position, then the sidelight into the fog...

I had persistent issues similar to what you describe, it was all down to a dodgy earth connection on one of the dipped beams. The heat affected the spade connection and melted part of the wire. Sometimes pulling the spade out and reconnecting it would fix it.

I put in HIDs, and the problem hasn't recurred.

Done a bit of testing and here's where I am... I've replaced the fuses relating to the lights 14,16,17,19 so it'd not them I took the relays out from next to the fuse box and tried each one in the horn socket and they work so it's not the relays. My hazards and indicators work, as do my brake lights and main beam flash, and the hazard switch illuminates, but the headlight and sidelights are still dead not lit up or turning on.

Surely that's just the switch that's knackered? The headlights also turn on the sidelights if you didn't know

The relays for the lights are under the dash top not next to the fuse box.

If it helps I had all sorts of wierd issues when my hid were playing up. Turned out to be a bad connection on the wires. Basically corroded wire, cut back a cm and re did it. All fixed.

Sorted now. There were some loose connection at the back of the switch block, and the 2 light switches and one fog light weren't connected firmly. Pushed them back in and hey presto all back and working :) Thanks for the pointers guys.
