Has anyone recently fitted a set of Gaz Monotube 40mm shocks?

Thinking of getting these....after considering nitron, ohlins, etc numerous times. however i need to save some money as i need some paintwork done.

Thinking of the gaz over the quantum as i can play with the rebound settings, ay thoughts?

I went for the Quantum zeros, absolutely no regrets. Mind you, if I had adjustments all I would do is twiddle with them constantly. That was the main selling point of the Zeros for me (that and the fact that they are a bit cheaper).

I have gaz monos on my vx. I can recommend them. Really nice ride and less bumpy than bilsteins.

My Gaz are fine. I think the crucial issue you should be concerned with is what springs to specify. Track day stiff and you will be losing out on grip for the road, too soft and you will be losing out on track. The other key factor is the extension you specify. Long throw dampers good with softer springs or helper springs. Short throw better for hard springs and low ride height. But not that straight forward - a long story.......... Ah suspension... no easy answers Kind regards, Paul

No, they are different.

Mono's are like a Nitron NTR in construction.

Elise-shop description says that rear dampers are mounted with helpers, but my fastroad-trackday setup gaz monos haven't got them. In any case to need them you have to lower the rear more than 5cm. However, on 120mm height (with oem tyres) in the front, the springs have zero preload on full extension... Are the helpers only fitted for the race setup?

Mmm I think that is because there are or were 2 lengths of damper. Short stroke for low cars that did not want to tit additional helpers. And long stoke for std ride height or lowered with helpers. Please note "I think". Kind regards, Paul

Can you elaborate on this, examples etc? As I was going to buy some tonight...

Gaz don't have the best record for durability. The monos may well be better, but that could also be down to them being a newer design and therefore lower numbers and younger examples that aren't showing problems yet.

I went for Nitron because I didn't want to gamble with the durability of Gaz, others may well opt to same some money by going with Gaz with the acceptance that they may have to send them off for refurb/repair.
