I was wondering today why change the na 2.2 for a 2.0 turbo.

So checked a few sites and came up with a $3600 turbo kit but would it fit any ideas ?

You could buy the crate supercharged engine for the same money, that is my first thought. Tricky to fit the turbo in front of the luggage compartment, also. You prolly want to reduce the compression ratio from the horrific 10:1, as well.

Rear clam on the turbo has a smaller boot space or even mod the rear clam for no boot I would need to strip the engine down anyway but if i could give the kit to a GOOD engineer I am certain it shouldn't be to big a job Was also thinking if they can get 280bhp+ out of a 2.0 turbo engine we must be able to get more out of a 2.2 turbo

The Gruber turbo, based on the 2.2, produces between 240-280 depending on the inlet pressure. But the cost for that conversion is €10 000!!!!!!!!!!!!! The SAAB 9-3 Aero engine 2.0 (based on the 2.2) is reinforced with different connecting rods etc and can take 300 HP. So with investments in different con rods, 8:1 compression a large intercooler, as well as the turbo kit itself maybe 240-300 HP is feasible. But the cost will not stay at $3600, I'm afraid. The crate engine, however, is the same reinforced SAAB 9-3 2.0 l engine and can prolly easily produce 230-250 HP without too much work

There are some docs on the web about some US chaps that built a 700bhp racecar from a 2.2 ecotec. The first step was to test the std engine - it imploded at approx 260bhp :o hth

I would rather have supercharger , much smoother no lag. B) ;) :D

I am not crazy about turbos either but they are more efficient if pure power is what you require. Also thinking about Ricky and his supercharger problems, turbos are simpler €10 000 just a tad much :(

With an american turbo kit at least 200-230 HP can be safely produced, I guess. Problem may be the fuel injection. The Delta-Motor supercharger has an extra ECU box that you plug into the old one. Dunno about the turbo kits tho?

Hi, I spoke to Conrad Gruber this morning and he sells two turbo conversion kits for the NA. Kit 1 produces 240BHP and 365lbs of torque and costs 7500Euros. Kit 2 produces 285BHP and 390lbs of torque and costs 9000Euros. Both prices are for supply only. Both kits use same engine internals only the head gasket is changed. Raul

1500 seems a lot to pay for a head gasket? does it require an ecu upgrade and is it part of the kit Mimmie where are you ?

Hi, What I am saying is that on engine block only the head gasket is changed. Kit includes replacement exhaust and inlet manifolds, T2 turbo, intercooler etc etc. Regal's kit will work with existing compression ratio therefore gasket is not changed but will provide less performance but is alot cheaper. I metioned to the tuning company that it had been reported that the rods failed but according to him this has never happened. Raul
