Hi

I would love a  Lotus 2-11 but with prices now well north of £30k they are definetly out of my price range

About 12 months ago there was a thread about a vx220 based 2-11 replica which uklotuscentre were selling on ebay

I have recently been offered a complete 2-11 bodykit for £2500 and I'm contemplating the possibility of building my own replica.

I would not dream of butchering my low mileage VXT so assuming £7000 for a donor N/A it should be possible to build a replica for c.£10k - £12k

Has anyone built anything similar?

Do you think the body panels would bolt onto the standard vx tub (minus windscreen / rear screen)?

Butchering an NA! How very dare you! Grab a Cat C/D with panel damage and reskin it?

I think you need to do some manmath on damaged NA rebuild, versus ok sample where the extra spendature is reclaimed via clams and lights sale.

PM Junks, he might have more insight into how well it would work.

Subframe is not the same. Wheelbase probably an inch more on the VX. You can fix wheelbase with modified wishbones.

Looks individual I'll grant you. But...a few points to consider...

  • you lose your windscreen and roof.
  • what happens to cooling ?
  • without rollover bar will flex more?

good luck with your venture though :)

i would love a 211 but as you say they are a lot but as much as making a replica would be a big job i would still have

the "isn't the real thing" in my mind.

Probably the same thing a Westfield driver feels whenever he sees a Caterham. And a Caterham driver feels whenever he sees a Lotus 7.

true.  just prefer the real deal myself rather than a kit that could be a dog to sell later. where as the real 211 would probably keep its value even after

a few years ownership.
