Wrap around Luke harnesses with Jon Betts bar and Lotus Probax seats (double shear like these).

Two questions:

For people who have a similar set up which do you have fitted nearest to the seat the standard lap belt or the harness lap belt?

Joe has kindly left everything as he removed it from the car. So a very newb question which loop goes around the bar!!!

This is why I want someone to check my handiwork on Sunday at Rockingham.

The curved bit of the buckle should sit on the harness bar, so it'll be the small loop that goes around the bar.

I used the 2 rear seat anchor bolts to hold the lap belts in (so the anchor points were sandwiched between the seat and the floor). The lap bits of the TMS harnesses I used were too long to fit tightly if I used the seatbelt anchors.

I'm interested to see where people have drilled in the VX for the lap belts. I have 4 points but want to upgrade to 6. I feel very uneasy about harnesses being used without cut-outs.

Bizarrely the probax rails are double shear on drivers rail, but the passenger has one single and one double? Thought this was a bit odd??

This looks like the crotch strap fixing is located forward of the seat.  Is this bad compromise or am I missing something?

Not that much forward. If you sit in the car and look at how the seats are positioned then the 'bar' will end up almost right below the person in the seat and if you have a seat with a hole in the seat base for the crotch strap then you will see the chassis cross-beam that the bar is attached to through the hole.

SCHROTH for instance allow a 10 to 15 degree deviation from pure vertical for the crotch straps, which this should fulfill pretty well. As the Lotus/Safety-Devices 4 and 6 point belts are simply re-badged SCHROTH belts I suspect that they followed their guidelines.

Having said that.. The VX/Elise chassis requires some compromises because of the relative lack of strong 'hardpoints' and no easy way to create new strong areas as the floor skin is simply too thin/fragile.

Eg. the rear mounting points for the lap belts through the chassis beam actually puts the lap belts at somewhat of a too shallow angle to be optimal. The location of the original seat belt are more optimal as they provide more downward force/angle on the pelvis, but of course those are inherently weaker as they are on the frame and not the chassis.

Bye, Arno.

I see now the bar is pretty close to the seat cut out. I'd still prefer a fixing point further back. I think the chassis beam might be a possible point to anchor the crotch straps.

The lap belts can either attach to the seat (compromise) or far back on the chassis rail (compromise).
