Hey .org

Bought one of those Shift-i shift lights as I want to pretend I am an F1 driver.

It needs live, earth and tacho wires to tap into.

For live, I intend to tap into the switched live of the stereo.

For earth, I will run to some bodywork.

For tacho, I will tap into the loom for the instruments... I have never read a wiring diagram in my life so can somebody validate please? :) It seems to be telling me that H1 is the connector, and H1.24 is the tacho connection, which is WHBK (White/Black) no matter whether it connects to a Z20let or z22se.

Yep, tap into the white wire with the black stripe for the tacho feed.

I earthed mine to the dash structure and used the same earth point as the airbag ecu.

If you're picking up the 12V from the radio, why not run the ground wire to there too?

Good ground on these cars is not easy if you just use bits of chassis as the anodized ali has the tendency to insulate (it's removed by the factory around the main ground points for that reason) and the bonded extrusions don't really have to have metal-to-metal contact to the side chassis beam that's used as the main ground conductor.

Using existing ground wires or linking into the actual ground points on the chassis is usually the only way to get a consistent and durably good ground connection.

Of course this should not be a huge issue on something like a shiftlight but on stuff like dash gauges that rely for their function on proper grounding to get the correct reading it's vital. (not to mention any ICE install with an amplifier..)

Bye, Arno.
