Was playing around with an old hd bullet cam today taking some footage from the outside of the VX.....image quality isn't bad but the sound is awful...just distorts in the wind.

Any recommendations for a camera which is capable of recording reasonable sound at speed - or am I asking for to much and should I just mount the camera inside the cabin ? (possible but would rather have an outside view)

Ta.

I don't think you ever really get both

better to plug in an external mic

but I'm sure someone else knows better and will be able to advise .......

Only had experience with a GoPro, standard sound was terrible so I bought an external mic, the Olympus me15 ( I think) it was only about £15 and it has a tie clip which clips nicely on the rear number plate.

The sound on that is laid down afterwards I think

from the bits I quickly looked at you never see his mouth

also there is not a drop of any background noise

I would say that he made that little film and added the dialogue track after

I'd get one of those little voice recorders hook up a mic and

stick it in the engine bay some where

as long as you set the recorder off first then the camera place your hands in front of the camera

and do a hand clap so you have a refference point to link video to sound

all should be good

Yes I said a hand clap really technical ........

It works

we do it all the time on no budget sh*t films !

External mike and use those furry covers that look like Coldstream guards hats to help reduce wind noise.

He usually records while on his motorbike with good quality sound. The video above was just a focus on his camera and kit. More usual video here:

Do you use a battery powered mic on the boot Stuwy? I always got really bad interference with a passive one and so did Matt in his TVR but he now gets great sound quality from the boot with a powered mic.
