I've been going on about it for a while and finally pulled my finger out and got some more information. Should be getting a little more on Monday too. There are basically 2 race series to do within the military and especially Navy. They are all run by the RAF (biggest budget). The first is sprinting. The race dates for this year for this are as follows: Sprint Challenge Apr21RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 1 Barkston Heath May19RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 2 Barkston Heath Jun16RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 3 Barkston Heath Jul14RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 4 Barkston Heath Aug10 11RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 5 Barkston Heath Sep15RAFMSA Speed Challenge Rd 6 Barkston Heath The only requirements for this are a helmet and a race suit, they even say military overalls will do :/ As far as I can make out its about £50 for each of the days, I would also be entitled to a hire car to tow my trailer or the fuel paid for for my Audi. Sprinting doesn't seem as adrenaline filled to me but it'll be a good start, especially as I've missed the start of this year's racing. The second series is the race challenge: Race Challenge (within the RAFMSA Race Challenge) Apr20-21CCRC Allcomers Race Castle Coombe, Wilts May9-11Armed Forces Race Challenge Rd 1 Snetterton 300 Aug23-25Armed Forces Race Challenge Rd 2 Donnington Oct3-4Armed Forces Race Challenge Rd 3 Oulton Park As you can see this year has already started. This series is a bit more strict so I need to get a fire extinguisher system, electrical cutoffs, rain light, in date harnesses, etc. Other than the safety though there are pretty much no limits as the races are run on a points system. Your points are calculated by taking your fastest lap time (in seconds) and divide it by your average lap time (in seconds). So you win by getting on the limit and staying on it while overtaking slower cars and staying ahead of others. This season is approx £1400 but may get some funding for some of that. Also, there is a small sum of money available in that if I keep all my maintenance receipts for the season I may be able to claim back some/all of it. Obviously the racing interests me more but it hopefully gives me a while to get experience and to get the car ready. We shall see though. Next week I should get some more info and hopefully start doing something soon! Also if Adam joins too and gets a VX220 it should make it very interesting ;)

Did I read that right? You're saying you can claim some of those expenses from your employer?

As a "sport" the RNRMMSA (Royal Navy Royal Marines Motorsport Association) can ask for money from the sports lottery and a few other navy funding places. This is then given back to the members in aid of doing the "sport" Similar to how I managed to do 2.5 weeks skydiving in California for about £700.

The sports lottery sounds like a great idea! I wasn't aware of it thumbsup
