HELP!

I have just taken delivery of Bridgestone RE040 Potenza Bridgestone RE 040 - 225/45 R17 Z (CZ) TL from CAMSKILL.

I thought these were a direct replacement but when delivered I couldn't find the speed rating printed on the tyre. I contacted Camskill and they told me that I should have the (BZ) and not the (CZ) Potenza and they are not for the VX. I had spoken to Blackcircles earlier and they told me that these were a direct replacement.

I could be mistaken, but because the CZs have no speed rating printed on the tyre it will fail it's MOT.

The BZs are not available and my MOT is due on Tuesday!

Any advice gratefully received

Depressed of Twickenham.

(CZ)

Subaru approved tyres

(BZ) BRIDGESTONE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT

Wouldnt of thought it mattered too much

http://www.tyres-pne...ngs-advice.html

Would be shocked if it failed the MOT on that...

Speed rating of Z is over 149... which your safe.

I agree Mark we have a 70 MPH speed limit after all but I would be very surprised if an MOT station ever checks the speed rating of tyres, they may give them a kick

Ask them for a free set of front tyres as compensation... If they ask what size, just say std VX size ...

That reads as the camskills web descrition but yes, if there is a Z on the tyre usually inbetween the 45 and 17, either in place of or infront of the R, then that is the speed rating.

Bottom right corner re MOT.

Cheers Guys,

The tyre do not have the usual load or speed rating code on the tyre. They are marked 225/45/ZR17 and it has the load rating shown as 600Kgs which, from the useful link mbes2 posted, is 90.

Having spoken to Camskill they stated that the load rating is not shown for vehicle specific tyres. I was also told, from two different sources, that fitting a different rating recommended for the vehicle may invalidate your insurance as they have done so with certain Porsche and Merc owners. I can't believe that putting a higher rating would do any such thing. I'm awaiting a call from my insurance underwriter to confirm that it's good to go. I'll update you when they deem to get back to me.

I'm off to the Italian lakes, via Germany and Switzerland fairly soon and will probably be doing a bit more than 70mph....

Many thanks

The underwriter asked three questions:

1. Are they being fitted professionally

2. Are the replacements  the same size as the original

3. Are they in compliance with the manufacturers specifications

I answered yes to all and they were happy. The third question, reading the handbook, page 88, it states 'Bridgestone Potenza RE040 only'.

Have I opened a can of worms about non-Potenza VXs? Hope not or I'll be as popular as Luis Suarez.......

Thanks once again for all your help.

Always better to ask than be unsure.

(plus, we are all good at making something up that sounds real)

This advice comes with no .org warranty or after sales support if your tyres fail the MOT.

Goodluck...

Cheers mate, see you next week at the Lotus visit. If I turn up in my ancient Freelander (if it doesn't break down) you know the VX failed the MOT!
