Been having a misfire on car I think I have found the problem ,on my swirl pot I have two connectors on the top and two on the bottom .I think the return was disturbing my fuel feed to my fuel rail ,so I have blanked one of the bottom pipes of so just leaving the pick up at the bottom and teed it into one of the top connectors so 3 at the top and feed at the bottom .Has any body had the same problem or heard of this before ?

How was it set up before? Logically I would want the feed to the fuel rail to be the one on the base, the feed from the pump to be the one on the bottom side, fuel rail return to be the top face, fuel tank return to be top side.

Feed to the 044 pump on the bottom which goes to the rail, the return from rail was to the bottom side ,the tank pump flow was to the top and return was to the top , did move them about but thinking about it never made sense to me having two at the bottom .

Makes sense but all the other swirl pots I have had there was always 3 at the top and 1 at the bottom.

Swirl pots are intended for secondary pumps, so from bottom up it's 1, supply to secondary pump, 2, supply from tank 3, return from fuel rail 4, return to tank?

Or that was my understanding anyway :D

Just fit a uprated fuel pump mate and do away with the swirl pot setup. I've no problems with mine.

I asume the only reason to fit a swirlpot is to avoid putting in a baffeled tank.

Otherwise the upraded fuel pump should indeed be up to the job.

A swirl pot should stay full all the time really unless the lift pump runs dry (long corners) or isn't up to the job.  I'd be surprised if it got air in it at all.  The only thing I could see happening would be the fuel getting heated up as the main pump sends it round and round the rail.

could well be that its just getting in the way and causing a flow restriction as its not being used "properly"

That's why you connect the rail return line to the "2nd from top" position, so the hot fuel gets quickly returned out from the top to the main tank... Fresh cold fuel from main tank should enter the pot from the 2nd-bottom or middle position, so that that get's used first by the secondary HP pump.

Just standard tank in mine and I had 8 litres left at croft and no fuel starvation.

Are you sure you're putting your foot down properly in corners?

Foot was going down as much as the car was letting me without spinning out. There's not just me running the bigger fuel pump and standard tank. Few others also with no problems.

No long left handers at Croft to cause the problem.

Even at Anglesey when I was running stage 3, I got down to refill on the gauge and still no problems. I'm hoping to do a few track days overseas next year so il keep this one in mind.
