Sorry, can someone help with my confusion? I'm looking to get a few extra ponies and a decent sound, rather than being mistaken for a Tesla.

I'm not so interested in major power unless it is only a few pounds more, and I want to stay road legal. I think I've settled on Milltek/Amd (since both the Woking and Essex branches seem the closest tuner to me - Surrey).

However, I'm confused. Milltek list 3 exhaust options:

http://www.millteksp...m?variantid=110

1. Cat Back

2. Turbo Back including HiFlow Cat

3. Turbo Back excluding HiFlow Cat (not road legal)

But Amd list only option 3 which is not road legal.

http://www.amdtuning...m?variantid=857

Will I be able to get Option 1 or 2 and will they give me a decent sound? Do I need to go to option 3 to release extra ponies over just a straight remap?

Sorry, this is my first venture into modern exhaust tuning. The old days of 4-1 or 4-2-1 exhausts and high lift cams no longer seem relevant.

They are, just not for turbo applications as that disrupts flow and pulse making the header layout secondary to the turbo.

AMD list option 2, and state it's not road legal because it's a higher flow catalytic converter which has reduced efficiency compared to a standard catalytic converter. In practice it's still legal and will still pass MOTs. HOWEVER you only need the backbox if you want sound improvement only, so give them a call.

Drop IanRM an email, he'll sort you out with a decent price and also a remap if you want. He works at AmD.

just fit a louder backbox (or do a mod to the standard one), and a "precat delete" downpipe ( goes from the Turbo V-band outlet to the main part of the system), this will retain the main cat and stay road legal with more performance.

the remap options , depending on how much time you want to tinker , or have a nice base map.

for almost free, there are some mods to the standard airbox that improve things a lot

PM IanRM he works there and always helps me out

Basically from what I can see

Option 1

An exhaust that is from the CAT back = more sound maybe a very slight performance increase - note the Miltek is much louder than stock especially when compared to Larini

Option 2

Same as option 1 but the CAT is replaced with a 200 cell sports version - makes more power as the CAT is restrictive in standard form (more expensive as sports CAT's come at a premium but will pass MOT)

Option 3

Is a straight pipe instead of the CAT so best performance as there is no restriction at all but is illegal for road use and will fail an MOT

All options will sounds better than standard

If I was you

Change the downpipe as they remove the first cat (precat) and they are very restrictive, that will free bhp up and help the turbo boost and still pass an MOT. Then just buy a backbox for noise

AMD will do any options as I have spoke them only last week about mine

I have a full milltek system. And a drilled out airbox for greater induction noise. I live near gatwick if you want to have a look and sample my car setup. Currently it has not been mapped but intend to go to AMD too.

I had a stage one map last yr (no other mods apart from apexi air filter) Recently had precat removed and a larini backbox fitted.. Will the stage 1 map be ok with the extra gas flow that will occur? Also could I use a stage2 map with the main cat still in place?
