Hi everyone, Pulled up at my parents house and switched off the ignition and could hear a hiss from the engine bay. Have a crack in the header tank. Luckily I have one in the boot as I thought it might be on the way out. Can't seem to find anything using the search on changing the tank over so does anyone have any tips on how to do it without getting coolant everywhere. Thanks in anticipation :-)

Siphon the coolant out of the tank with a piece of hose and stick it inside the lower outlet pipe to get the level below this.

Easy way to minimize coolant spill.

I just pulled the hoses, there's not THAT much in the header tank. Most of it sits on the engine mount/gearbox webbing and burns off :)

Last time I just took it off its mounts and tipped the fluid out into a McDonald's cup. Fitted the new one and tipped the coolant back in.

I just tipped the old tank in a way that the fluid wouldn't pour out and lifted it out of the way, put the new one in and decanted the fluid in.

:yeahthat:

I changed mine and didn't have to top it up.  Take the old one off the bracket, tip it over, pull the pipes off and set it aside on end.  Fit the new one and tip in the old coolant.  Its not hard.

This is the ONLY manly way to do it as you get to have some sort of trip to maccy D's too :)

Cheers everyone for the help. Changed the tank over in 10mins no probs. Did the same as a few suggested and turned the tank before removing the hoses to keep the coolant in there. Another job done! But no trip to maccy d's unfortunately :-(
