My head is a little mashed using the search facility on this topic. But what is the current thinking on where to get a new set of calipers for the Turbo?

To add to my ignorance are they used by any chance on any other Vauxhall?

Thanks

They are across the velise range (except the latest), dodge viper and some renaults.  There are other cars with the same caliper body but a different piston size so be careful.  You can get new or refurb ones from lotus for a fraction of what vauxhall will charge you.  IIRC vxl want around 650 each!  Time to give Paul a call!

Some sort of weird drum disc affair with the handbrake on the drum part and the foot brake on the disc.  The 'drum' is the dish part of the disc where it slots over the hub.

Might be my mistake.  This seems to be the V6's only.

same method my shitty BMW uses. On the plus side you ahve free reign on the calipers :)

I did notice that the 500's rear calipers looked like they were similar, but the pad size might be smaller... I'm sure there are some chavvy upgrades though

I think the Lotus Brembo's have a 36mm piston. Don't think there are OEM Brembo's with different sizes on other cars, but for the Viper they do a refurbished upgraded caliper with a bigger sleeved piston in 38 or 40mm bore to increase rear breaking. (There non ABS cars very easily lock up fronts what is rectified by a better rear brake balance.)

Something I'm still overthinking for my VX, as mixing RC5+ & RC6 can be a tad too much on the rear...

I thought the Vipers had something silly like a 30mm thick disc though

Be careful of cheap refurbs on these calipers, they tend not to last long.

OP:

Didn't someone post up (can't find it when I search) that Nelly was doing decent refurbs?

Might be worth PMing him? Not seen him (or any of the pun brigade) on here for a bit... is he selling up? NELLYVX wasn't it?

I've just had a quote back from the brake caliper specialists for £148 including postage for 1 rear caliper refurb. Hopefully youcan combine postage to make it cheaper for 2. This includes shot blasting and repainting, next day delivery and a 2 year warrenty

Livingston autoparts have been used by the ScottishElise guys quite a bit.  I think they send them off somewhere to get them done.
