So here is my sob story.. The good lady and me went on holiday to the small but pleasant island of Malta (they drive like maniacs..) upon return the battery to my car was flat so I recharged it but then things started looking troublesome.  Typically the Mrs car has just failed the MOT and was going to replace with newer/nicer model so we are car less.

The Car Issue:

Car battery was flat, charged back up.  So now she turns over but does not catch.

-Bit of digging in Op-Com shows that fault querying ECU of "P1614 wrong transponder key present"

-Looking further into the immobilsor this shows that Transponder it present and working, I also tried another key and the same issue.  The thing that stands out is the Tranponder Status of "Wrong TP-Key"

So question is how do I go about fixing that error code, I have a spare set of ecu and immob etc sat in another VX so could swap if need be but their must be some programming lost due to the batery flattening so would love help on how to program that in.

Glad for any help, advice or visitors to assist fixing really need to sort before Monday so I can earn some money ;)

Thanks all!

Hi Jason,

I had a similar issue with a P1610 code...

Thread here; http://www.vx220.org...inhibit-module/

In the end i had to get it recovered to vauxhall and they matched the keys to the immobiliser again  (only can be done on their machines)

HTH

Pete

Wow that was an awesome quick response, thank you Pete.

I should add I have deleted the keys and added again, this doesnt seem to help.  Surely this is the same as Vauxhall will do?

Think if the key isn't talking to the immobiliser the car will start and run for about 10 seconds then shut off with an engine management light I would check the plugs on the ecu Take them clean with switch cleaner spray and wiggle them on securely If that fails try disconnecting the battery charge fully then reconnect see if it will reset

I think for the fix Vauxhall access the immobiliser rather than the keys and reprogramme both.

Another solution i read of was to buy a new key or transponder and you can use the opcom to programme it/learn it ?....

(for me the vauxhall option was the chaeapest about 40 quid with free AA recovery, but did take a week)

I had the same problem and it was the transponder I fitted a new one and then reprogrammed it with opcom and all was good .

Lee when you say transponder you mean the tiny rectangular chip in the key?

Have a few new keys on order to try also, but did swap the chip from a key to another VX into my key and still got the same issue so not convinced this will fix.

Will try disconnect the power also as you say Chris see what impact that has as cant get much worse.. :)

No the transponder is the black box around the ignition barrel that reads the chip mine stopped working after a flat battery there about £35 from Vauxhall then you need to reprogram it .

If you have another ecu transponder and key chip you can just swap other though

Next question.. How do I get the transponder off. I have removed steering wheel airbag etc. But the plastic underhanging transponder won't budge. Do I need to use the key in a certain position or pock a small tool in a whole somewhere?

You need to put key in ignition barrel turn to position 1 ,there is a small hole under the barrel surround put a small screwdriver - bradell in the hole and push up be carefull as you can brake the retaining clip that holds the barrel in .pull barrel with key in ,once removed the transponder with metal surround should pull of .unplug and change ;-) good luck lol

Now I am waggling a 2mm allen key in what I think is the correct hole, car to confirm if its this small round one through black plastic? (pictured on the left close to white wires and looking like a sight for a riffle)

Dont seem to press anything inside though the hole only opens when ignition barrel is turned.  How come the simple sounding things are so difficult..

the transponder just clips into place, no need to remove the lock barrel, simply lever off the transponder

FIXED...! Not sure if it was leaving the battery disconnected overnight or disconnecting the ignition barrel transponder then reconnecting but it lives. Now to stick everything back together... Thank you everyone for your input. Bit a patience could have done the trick instead of dismantling stuff. Oh well you live and learn..
