Good Morning Fellow .Orgers :)   It has been a while since i made a thread (''hooray!'' i hear some of you say..lol) and whilst i was sitting in the family car, listening to radio4's 'Desert Island Disk', i felt genuinely intrigued and sincerely interested to listen to what your choices would be.   Please do join in and share a part of yourself, your input is most welcomed, appreciated and thanked for (in and with, anticipation).
To set the scene...   You awaken disorientated, face down in the sand, dismayed at being marooned on a deserted island but slightly less so to find out that, washed up with you and beside you and needing you to quickly retrieve them to the safety of the shadows of the palm trees, are, eight pieces of music, three books and one luxury item.   So, in Kirsty Young's lovely voice (gosh!..it melts my heart)...   What would your eight music tracks be?   What (along with the Bible and the full works of Shakespeare) would your 'one book' be?   What would your luxury item be?   And...   Which of your eight music tracks do you regard most highly?
Please do take the time and effort to elaborate a little and explain as to why each choice has left imprinted on your life thus far, such an impression that if not found on that deserted isle, an unused awaiting bookmark, an empty echo of an album sleeve and a marked wishful yearning for, redundant hole, would be embedded in the sand beside you.    My decision as to what will be allowed and what will not be, is final, so please don't expect rafts, ships, boats or any otherwise escape orientated luxury items to be accepted.

I look forward to rolling-up my trouser legs, putting my handkerchief, with a knot in each corner, on my head and sitting crossed legged beside you on that warm sun drenched sand whilst we while away the time together.

Best regards and warm warm wishes...

..icey :grouphug:

Hello, Mr Iceman.

This requires some thought. And effort. I expect that's why not too many have yet replied.

Tracks:

Kashmir - Led Zep

Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC

Tie Your Mother Down - Queen

Telegraph Road - Dire Straits

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones

La Grange - ZZ Top

All of the above have some joyful association or meaning to me and I'd be happy to have them as my only music...

(I will spend the rest of my life wishing I'd typed different songs... this I know)

Book:

To Kill a Mockingbird

It's an astonishingly complete read.

Luxury item:

(Assuming I have a record player to play the records on)

A really nice (endless?) single malt.

Top of my head:- Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths Public Enemy - Public Enemy Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) - The Beach Boys Earthquake - Prince Buster Stupid Marriage - The Specials Burn It Down - Dexy's Midnight Runners Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order Going Down - Stone Roses. That doesn't even scratch the surface and they'll all be different tomorrow; no Floyd, no Hey Joe, no Dr. Jimmy (in fact, nothing from Quadrophenia), no Norah Jones, I guess it's just what I'd listen to tonight. Burn It Down just reminds me of the older lads playing music in their garage, that evokes the most memories for me. Book? I am absolutely transfixed by The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas, and couldn't imagine not finishing it so that'd be my choice. As for a luxury item, something which would allow me to Skype my loved ones would be nice.

The music depends on your mood at the time so a mix of music would be needed. One or two for each of my moods would be along these lines. Stairway to Heaven - Zeppelin Coming home - Iron Maiden The unforgiven - Metallica Sweat child of mine - Guns & Roses The Wizard - Uriah Heep Whole lotta Rosie - AC DC Ace of Spades - Motörhead Whiskey in the jar - Thin Lizzy The book is easy, the biggest one you could get so it would burn longer as I don't do books  if I had to read one then something about UFOs may interest me. Luxury item. Well a massive barrel of a nice Malt sounds good but so would a nice comfy bed and pillow. Then again would you need a comfy bed to sleep if you had loads of Scotch ? I will have a think on this one as I like both a lot

How else are you going to get the fire alight? Then kick back in front of it reading a bit of Shakespeare!

Hello Good Sir. :)   Thank you very much for taking the time and the trouble to contribute and to do so in depth is extremely appreciated.   Like you say, it does require some thought and effort but, knowing we have an abundance of orgers here willing and capable of both, i knew it was only a matter of time until this thread saw some traffic.   Now, down to business...   ..i love your choice of tracks. Every one of them i could hear play in my head as i read them (apart from the last one that is) and it was a pleasure to reminisce thus with you. Music of the past or more exactly, the memories wrapped around the echos of it, play a large part in those ripples that link our past to our present and future. I was reminded of that when i heard playing in the background a programme on jimmy hendrix the other night, such wonderful memories, that i must admit carry a sometimes unwelcome reminder of lost dreams, of unrequited expectations.   Your book!? Oh yes i remember that, indeed i do. It was required reading in the curriculum of my era (iirc, along with 'a day in the death of joe egg') but i have also returned to it in latter years, only to find a different view-point to absorb the read vista ahead of me, funny how adulthood does that, although sometimes to the detriment of the piece. A nice choice sir.

A single malt is of course ok but endless? I'm afraid that would not be possible but, as you were the first to answer and get the ball rolling, i think i can bend the rules a little. Just for you, three masts of a galley ship can be seen peeking above the waves breaking off shore around perilous looking rocks, just within swimming distance and what would you know!, it's full of barrels of the best single malt your belly has ever had the pleasure to swim in (will that do? lol).

Thank you again for sharing your choices...

..icey :)

So I have been thinking about this for a while and I have come up with the below.... Hope this is in the rules Icey....

Songs:

There is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths - To remind me it's not so bad...

Still Dre - Dr Dre - Because every needs a bit of Dre in their life

Midnight City - M83 - infectious and over and over and over again type song which (personally) I never get sick of

Start from Scratch - The Game - To remind me I wouldn't ever change anything, even getting marooned

Drinking In L.A. - Bran Van 3000 - Drinking near the sea at 26? Seems apt for this.

B*tches Aint Sh*t - Ben Folds - Because this song is so true

Glorius - Andreas Johnson - Just makes you feel good inside

Leningrad - Billy Joel - my favourite all time song and I have no idea why!

The book:

The one I am writing that is not yet finished

Luxury item:

Pencils and Paper

Good Morning My Friend. :)

It is indeed all within the rules sir.

And...talking of rules, i feel most compelled to break my own self-imposed rule of replying in order of posted instalment in my threads (which i feel is very important, respectful and polite)...

..How wonderfully meek and humble is your luxury item, no hot bubbling spa, no surround sound home cinima...instead!! 'Pencils and Paper' How refreshingly lovely is that! Most commendable...lovely Imnotworthy
