I used to do it as Hairy says and, in fact, I still do! Unfortunately I only managed one event this year, however, after a self inflicted problem with the engine last year took a long time to resolve. I did manage to come fifth overall in the ASWMC sprint championship in 2012. I have done a few track days, too, which represent much more time on track for your money. Next year I plan to just do interesting sprints which, for me, means Crystal Palace, Silverstone etc as well as some old favourites like Llandow and some more track days. I specifically chose a VX for sprinting as it fits in Class A3 of the ASWMC championship and it's the most fun I've had - much more fun than the Evo I had before. Elises are the car to beat in class A2 and I think a VX in more capable hands than mine would be for class A3. I have made some mods to my car including limited slip diff, throttle bodies and stage 2 cams but I'm not sure they're really necessary. If I had the money, I would definitely go racing and each year I pay the MSA more for my racing licence than you need for sprinting in the vain hope I will win the lottery. Sprinting is fun for the competitive element but track days give you much more time to enjoy belting round a track.
