Anyone got or had both? Everything from my quick research is pointing me towards PS4 except that I love Forza games and Gran Turismo 7 probably won't be released until 2035. That Forza draw is enough to sway me I think...

Which ever controller you like the feel of best and which ever your mayes have got. For me it would be a ps4, but if ur just buying it to play racing games go buy assetto corsa for the pc and a g27 wheel.

Xbox, but that's probably brand loyalty than anything to do with spec.

Xbox, the software is far superior and that gap is only going to widen as both consoles mature. Sony are great at making hardware, but terrible at writing software

Xbox was always the better system regarding being user friendly. The online system is also far better. However, it seems the hardware of the PS4 is better, seeing how certain games run at 60fps on the PS4 and are capped at 30fps on the xbox one. For pure performance in games i'd go with the PS4 i think.

That being said, i have an xbox one and no PS4 yet.

The fps thing is all internet nonsense. Xbox can run at 60fps if the game writers choose, likewise some ps4 games run at 30fps (GTA 5 for example). Microsoft has also released more onboard computing power with the removal of the kinect requirement, so full 1080p is available too.

The only thing the PS4 has over the Xbox is the PS4 has a faster video processor. However the Xbox has full Azure cloud services for offloading it's number crunching, which makes it infinitely more powerful than the PS4's graphics. It just need developers to get to grips with it as it's still brand new technology.

Sony's only profitable business is it's PS4, most everything else is in decline. You have to wonder how much longer the company can stay afloat for and whether your PS4's will still have a PSN to connect to in 10 years time. Microsoft on the other hand are turning record profits year on year. I know where I'd rather put my money.

btw, I'm not a gamer and I don't own either of these consoles.

I always felt this was marketing crap. But anyway, I'd go for the One (with Kinect) over the PS4.

Reading this topic with interest as I am going to buy the kids a console for Xmas. Not sure which one to go for!

Seem to be pros and cons for each.

As a soon to be (hopefully temporarily) unemployed bum, this is a burning question for me..

However, knowing that the new (old) Halo is coming out soon, and I see today GTA 5 (which I already have for the 360) will have a first-person mode, think I'm swung towards the One...

I was at my nephews place on saturday. He got a One and Forza Horizon 2... in order to play it you had to copy a load of data off the disc onto the xbox, and then do a 1.6Gb update... Oh fcuk off!

I barely have time to play games, so to have to preload the game before you start is just a shite model. Back off the graphics and make life faster again!

Similarly, theres a few games now that you literally cannot play (such as that one Destiny), without an internet connection...

Having to install and update is common on all systems now.

PS3 had it originally, basically to give the nice high def graphics you see they use uncompressed textures etc which literally wont fit on a disk so they compress it and install it...

As for always online games like destiny, if you don't like always online don't by a MMORPG.... thats the whole point.

I have an XboxOne but mainly because thats what my friends play on, also i like Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2 and Halo.  I will pick up a PS4 at some point too but for me its the second in line purchase.

It's hardly a hardship? It's a one off task, to load from the disk first time round. The Xbox can then use data from Physical Disk and HardDisk at same time as they're on seperate channels. This was the same for Xbox360, PS3, PS4 etc etc... Indeed GTA 5 was quicker to run when streaming from both DVD and HDD, instead of caching all to HDD.

I have both systems. I don't really prefer either console but I do prefer the Xbox exclusives.  The PS4 gets rarely any use but that's not to say there's anything wrong with it. My taste just leans towards Forza & Halo etc.

Both controllers are great, I hated the PS2 / PS3 pad and way preffered the X360 but the PS4 pad is really comfortable. Still dislike the sticks being symmetrical but the shape is now much nicer.

Both consoles produce awesome visuals, both consoles have all the tv show app jibber jabber the same as each other ( Netflix etc ) Both consoles have solid online, both consoles have crappy interfaces.

The whole Xbox being a lower resolution has been blown way out of proportion.

take the latest Call of duty for example. 1080p on PS4 and some weird scaling resolution on Xbox one. It gets up to 1080p but not often. Playing it, you would never feel it's a lower resolution, it's been handled very well, the other kicker is that the Xbox one doesn't drop frames where as the PS4 drops down to 40fps on occasion. So yes, the Xbox struggles to hit 1080p but 900p which seems to be normal is still nice and smooth and barely a noticeable drop in quality when compared.

So.... go with which ever has the exclusives you want.

It was a major irritant imho. Made sitting down for 5 mins to have a quick game not possible once he had opened it.

And always online games are properly irritating (even simple games like clas of the clans etc do it with no real need imho)

Yes updates seem to be the norm and its nice that things are maintained, although I do question the validity of the updates when you get many over a few days to fix bugs etc.... just do one release a month with proper testing :)

I went for the PS4 in the end. Previously XBox 360 with Kinect.

Found Kinect to be disappointing. Thought Kinect 2 might be a big jump forward. But now they have dumped it (produced nothing compelling enough to make people want it and then were forced to make it optional) it will no longer attract enough interest.

Also didn't like the way Microsoft were trying to force people down the no reselling games, always online route etc. Again were forced to change.

Microsoft getting a bit too greedy/controlling for my liking (like the old days/Apple today).

Hardware wise PS4 genuinly has more kick and I like where they seem to be going with the combination camera and motion control and VR stuff. Not bought the camera yet incase they bring out a better one to better support VR etc. later on.

Was a bit worried about the controller as XBox one felt good in hand. But new PS4 one is great as well. Kids kept saying they liked the XBox controller, but said they prefered the PS4 one in no time (allowing for bias, lets say both are good). Like the recharge from MicroUSB (phone charger) as well. Hasle free. Touchpad idea is good, but not really used it for much.

Hope the controllers last longer than the XBox ones used to...

Big issue for me, is neither will support my steering wheel. So going to get a PC racing game.

I was totally going Xbox then started reading comparison reviews and PS4 defo has higher resolutions, it's smaller and has no power brick (NY apartments are small and that actually is a reason for me) and I've always preferred the XB controller but literally every review is saying the PS4 controller has really improved. I also have a PSVita and you can remote play with PS4. Exclusives are mostly equal to me on both sides BUT I need a decent driving game like Forza or Gran Turismo, but PS4 probably won't get that for 2 more years. Forza and Halo 5 are basically the only thing stopping me from going PS4. Everything else logically points to PS4 at the moment.

I have also heard though, that although PS4 outputs higher native resolution, it is more prone to framerate dips where the XB seems to be consistent.
