my vxt has started holding revs between gear changes, if you rev it  to say 4000rpm it will gain 1000rpm before the revs dropping down, any ideas ?

Sounds like the symptoms of a slipping clutch.

It's the clutch switch (on the clutch pedal/in front of it) not being fully depressed because the bracket holding it is made of cheese and over times gets moved further and further away (mm's) from the clutch pedal in its rest position. Could also be due to a tired clutch return spring not fully returning the pedal and so again not depressing the switch.. Needs a little adjusting.

thanx for your help everyone, was reading about clutch pedal switch, climbed under the dash and the bracket had bent, so the switch wasnt touching the pedal. gave it a bit of a move. seems ok now

Must be the time of year... mine has been doing the same, I'll be checking out the clutch switch tomorrow as that seems to be the cure to this common fault.
