Hello guys, My car got hit in the factory car park this week and the black plastic and mirror section of the wing mirror broke away and smashed. I ordered a new one from Elise parts (image) and I'm wondering if anyone knows a good way to remove the black plastic and mirror section from the new one to put on the car? Thanks guys

Best option is to use search, "wing mirror removal"

Guessing you bought the following item http://www.elisepart...47/door-mirror/

This following link has photos which will help.

Good luck, dont drop the screws

Definitely don't drop the screws whole door has to come apart then you have to squeeze your arm in around the window mechanism to feel for them to try and get them back. What a pain in the a**e!!

Mine slide in around the bottom of the door, you can hear them when you accelerate and brake!

A long torx key might help the middle screw. I dropped all my screws in the door as the pins in the fastenings holding the plastic triangle on are easiest just to push through so they drop in the door anyway. Use some tape to fix screw to torx key when refitting as fishing around for bolts is only so much fun.

Thanks for the links mbes2. Got a spare mirror in bits as I was going to fit the black pronged bit in my broken current mirror but had no hope of refitting the flanged washer due to the fiece big spring. Separating it and fitting that bit first might be possible...maybe.

YOu can strip the mirror right down.  Which bit are you struggling with?

I was going to take the black bit under the rubber gaitor and put it on my existing mirror, but after fixing the long spring inside the mirror, I can't pull the rod out and compress the big short spring enough to get the tabbed washer on the rod to keep the big short spring compressed. Not sure if I can do this first and then fit the weaker long spring with the mirror pulled apart?

Ah right.  Youre best leaving that short fat spring alone, I've never taken it off.  The long spring inside that fits on that piece of formed bar is what holds the base stub into the mirror body.  If you take off the tiny tab washer from the inside of the mirror and then pull the bar piece out it pings off the long thin spring.  The whole stub part should then slide out.  Does this help?

I'll give it a go. I did manage to glue the old black plastic prong back on but it broke again but now I have a long screw going right through the plinth, the broken plastic tube/prong and into the base of the black plastic bit covered by the rubber gaitor and it seems very solid so should be OK for now. The mirror in pieces is actually my spare driver's side mirror which I took apart before I did that to the current passenger side mirror just in case it went wrong. I do have a spare europa blue whole door/mirror so I could just stick the whole thing on - just that the paint on the spare isn't as good as the mirror on the car.
