I had my fuel tank out a few weeks ago to do a number of jobs. I put it all back and went to hook the feed and return pipes back up but only the return would push on a click.

Luckily one of the jobs I did was to increase the size of the inspection hole for the fuel pump, so I whipped it back out. The feed pipe is larger than the return, but female connectors are both the same size. How the hell did the feed hook up previously? am I missing something?

Both fuel connectors latch on onto blue plastic clips, and these latch onto the that little rib on your fuelpump.

The blue plastic clips should have stayed on the fuelpump.

Hopefully they are still ok'isch and still inside the fuelpipes.

Carefully get them out, and clip them on the fuelpump. Then simply click the fuel connectors on.

(ignore all the arrow stuff. That was used for another explanation)

Ah, well that kinda makes sense, I think my lines still have the blue clips in them. I have some spare lines too and they also have the clips in both the ends. I wish I'd have gotten a pic of the lines now too so I could verify. It's weird how they still won't go over though, even if they're still stuck in the lines.

I'm guessing I'll be coming back to this thread...

With the blue clips inside the lines, they cannot expand enough to go over that little lip on the fuelpump. So don't try to force that. It should all go very smooth when done correctly.

Luckily I have spares if I've damaged any. Thanks for the tip thumbsup

Looks like I did take a pic of one after all :)

I can't check because the car is at my workshop, but are you saying these blue bits aren't supposed to stick in the pipe end?

Looks like part of the pipe to me

They should be on the white fuel pump cannister lid

That type remains in the connector. It doesn't go over the connection with some oil smeared on the pump connection and pressing on the blue square?

The O-rings inside the connector can need some lubrication to slide properly over the end of the fuel pump. A drop of plain motor oil is fine.

Bye, Arno.

It was on my early NA.

I know it was improved later on on the tubby. Maybe on late NA's as well.

Can't advise on the fancy new version :P

That makes more sense, the one I have didn't seem like it separated from the pipe.

The return pipe clicks on really easily, but the feed didn't wanna go even with both sides tightly pressed, and I was wary about braking something. I'm sure it'd be obvious if I could see what I was doing....

Are both connectors the same size, or is the feed connector larger to accommodate the larger male connector?

I'll try again with a bit of lube, failing that I'll have to remove the pump and both pipes and get the on the bench where I can see what's going on.

The 'really easy' bit makes me think that you put the bigger connector on the smaller pipe there and are now trying to fit the smaller one over the bigger pipe ;)

Usually these connectors are quite a snug fit and need some 'persuasion' to fit.

Bye, Arno
