The wife and I are considering a 2500 mile trip around Europe in September/October in the VX. Has anyone done something similar, and if so can you offer any suggestions of tools to take, any particular mods required etc. We're looking to have the interior re-trimmed so some extra padding is part of that requirement! Temperatures aren't too big a worry - max 25 degs for the time of year, and the car has a cool running thermostat and never really goes over 95. I've just put new rear dampers on and will be fitting new brakes and tyres prior to going. I'm even looking into fitting 16" front wheels/tyres so they're a common size should I pick up a puncture, with the added benefit of the 16's allegedly being a nicer drive too.

My wife & I did 2,500 miles a couple of years ago & had a fantastic time. If you look at this link in Pistonheads it has a write up of my Euro trip plus lots of other Pistonheads members so should give you a great idea for destinations & passes to aim for. http://www.pistonhea...s & experiences

I did read that, my only criticism is you didn't give much away about the car in your write up :) We're planning to take in more of France - want to do Le Mans, Bordeux and the Milau bridge. Then across to the south coast, Milan, Grindelwald, Baden-Baden, luxembourg, the 'Ring and then ending in Bruges before heading home.

Nothing special to do other than the obvious good preparation beforehand. Luggage room stops you taking too much in the way of tools so just cover the basics including small tyre compressor. I also carry a tyre plug repair kit in case of punctures which can be better than the sticky inflating canister stuff (tends to hold ok and was the standard way of dealing with punctures during my time in the Middle East) Done plenty of Euro trips in hot temperatures including consecutive track days in the South of France @35deg without problems. For peace of mind just make sure you have good breakdown and recovery cover.

Didn't do far off that to the south of France last summer with 3 trackdays included. Even with a modifed 300bhp turbo ragged on track all day there were no temp problems. To be honest I didn't do anything I would have done popping the car down the shops!

Haha, I am contemplating trying to hook up cruise control! Cheers guys. I wouldn't have expected too much apart from the standard recommended mods and doing the jobs that you usually put off as it would be an inconvenience till you got home. They're not that old and fragile yet! Reading roasting ITR's write up does remind me that I could do with a pair of roof cables as mine look a little worse for wear.
