I am sure quite a number of members have been through a search for a suitable trailer. I have been looking for a second hand one and have seen a number of tilt bed trailers with the right dimensions. However I visited PRG trailers today and was told that I should go for a fixed bed and ramps for the VX. I was a bit surprised since a lot of adverts for tilt bed trailers claim they are better suited to low vehicles. Any experience of tilt beds out there. I do not want to buy one on ebay and find it's no good for the VX.

Which Trailer ? Tilt Or Fixed Bed.

I always hire a trailer for race weekends and always have a PRG 15ft with slide in ramps. I've found that the front of the car always hits the ground with the tilt bed type.

Tilts make towing much more stable due to the low centre of mass, does take a little getting used to the extra width. You also don't have to lug the ramps out and back away.

Hi, I've used both, mainly from trailer hire places. Found the tilt bed handy and never had problems with getiing the car on and off.
Went ahead and bought a second hand, twin axel, Brian James (the heavy duty one) fixed bed, with slide out ramps (standard lenght). Occasionally, depending on the attitude of the trailer, V's slope of the ground, extra wooden blocks have been needed to give enough clearence getting off without scraping the clam.

I have only used a large tilt bed, but I find this fine for the VX (which is quite low). On the BMW Compact though the front sometimes catches when loading. I find the trailer stable probably due to the twin axle, lower bed height and it's weight.
The only problem with the lower bed is access once loaded as there's not enough clearance above trailer tyres for the doors to open.
Just a note before I get flamed but the VX in the picture is positioned a bit too far back for transport. It was the first time I'd put the VX on the trailer and I wanted to see if it fitted alright. I then towed her round to the front of the house.

Thanks for your help fellas. I found myself a very nice 2 year old Brian James trailer with fixed bed. Only loaded once with front end jacked up a little and worked fine. Happy bunny.
