Whats the current score with the sandwich plate seal rings for an NA?  Las I heard was that Vxl weren't wiling to supply them anymore and we should ask lotus.  Is this still the case?

I've got Podge asking the Lotus factory for them but the Lotus part no is not proving fruitful.

Vauxhall customer services have said they are not producing any more of the sandwich plate seals 9198195 and that we should try their supplier which is Lotus. I've also not had any luck yet with the Lotus part number B116K0011F. My local dealer couldn't even find the part number on their system, even trying alternatives such as A116K0011F. I'm personally fed up with not being able to easily do a simple task such as an oil change so am looking at remote filter options - none of which are cheap unfortunately for the sake of a £4 seal.

I've bought the lotus seals that I could find where sort of could of been connected with this, as the part numbers they gave me couldn't be found. The ones I've had delivered were all wrong and a waste of of money really.

Thanks guys.  Might be worth taking the car to a stealer for an oil and filter change.  Let them deal with the issue of it leaking afterwards through their 'duty of care'.

Actually that might be a cunning plan to force their arm... get a few into dealers for a simple oil change and soon they will crack at having a curtosey car out and many cars on ramps because they cant move them

Suspect they will just re-use the old rings and torque the hell out of the cap until it doesn't leak visibly.

Probably true, assuming they don't damage them. They won't get any more torque on my rings as there is now as I couldn't even undo them when I changed the oil a few weeks ago. since I didn't have new seals, I just did a tempory oil change using the year old filter. Need a breaker bar next time.

The reply from Lotus:

Strangely enough, this does come up as B116K0011F – albeit with a small addition to the number

I didn't think they were fitted on standard engines, just those with oil coolers in the VX220.

How expensive/difficult is it to install a remote oil filter on these engines then?

I saw a bung thing that someone linked on ebay for about $15 from the Usa + shipping, then getting stuff from your local farmer hydraulics company and remote filter housing, probably £30-50 (or more :lol)

Long term that seems like a sensible solution then no?

Tell me about it. I'm just wondering while I'm finalising my engine installation whether it would be a good idea for me to do it?

You don't need it on the B207 engine. Assuming you're retaining the Saab oil cooler anyway.

Ah yeah, that would be sensible wouldn't it.

But I've got a Mocal Laminova oil cooler now... it's shiny :ninja: thumbsdown

Oooh, now you're fcuked. Hope you've kept hold of the VX specific sprung valve/diverter thingy that goes in the filter housing to make the oil go through the cooler circuit first before returning through the filter?

I would say yes, but you know me Matt I have no fcuking idea.

Thankfully I think we do have it, as Lee and I were discussing oil seal rings last night.
