They came pretty close.
Universal studio´s actually bought 2 speedsters and had them prepped by a company called Circlescan 4D in El Segundo who did more F&F cars.:
I think these were later on used in:

National Security.
Austin Powers in Goldmember. (deleted scenes only)
And a TV series called Alias.
All different production companies, so i asume actually owned by a movie car retal company or something.
That was all 2001/2002. Then they dissapeared off the radar in the US.
(I don't think you can get the speedster registered on plates in the US, so who knows what happened to these)

Indeed, El Segundo was released 25 years ago.
To be honest I always preferred Phife but Tip is also up there with the greatest.
