Stick with the same type. You certainly don't want to fit 'upgraded' calipers for the rear, unless you like having the rear kick out when you brake. Lotus still sell the calipers, they are listed here; https://www.deroure....&SMO=0&ST=&SC=0 and while not cheap, are still the cheapest way to get working brakes again.

Call Paul McStein at chris neils before you go spending money. He's good at getting things cheaper than the std price.

Indeed that's one of the things I need to sort in March - selling of more stuff! So yes fully refurbed and powdercoated rear calipers.

I just got mine refurbished up here in Sweden, the company charged around 120 euro a piece. They found out that the rear calipers are the same as Renault Laguna... So they found spareparts that way

I had my rear calipers refurbed by The Brake Cailper Specialists..the paint job on one of the calipers wasnt great.. My VX is in the local garage getting a few upgrades and mot'd. The mechanic discovered that one of the calipers handbrake mechanism doesnt work. drivers side.

This was the reason I sent them to be rebuilt to these guys in the first place. I emailed them yesterday and there response was that there was no point in sending the caliper back to them as apparently they need a special tool to sort the mechanism out and they dont have it. Although they have offered some money back but not sure how much yet.

So what next ?

Any other companies out there who actually rebuild the 'whole caliper'

Cheers Guys

Unfortunately the tool you need is a new caliper. They're almost impossible to rebuild. I've tried

Larkspeed appear to be selling refurbed EBC calipers £87 per caliper.

Seems a bit cheap for a refurbed caliper but might be genuine Try contacting "Junks" member on here. He usually has used ones from EliseExiges Alternatively you can still buy them new from Chris Neil's or Deroure

I contacted Deroure this afternoon and they said they supply Lotus and vx parts but weren't 100% sure which calipers it is. is there a particular lotus model that uses the same calipers ?

This is exactly the same situation I got into with them, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now, or recommend them to anyone.

I had the same issue with the handbrake mechanism and returned the calipers for rework.  This was the first mistake......

After several months, I was told they were going to close their doors and that they couldn't return the calipers to me.

I threatened them with the small claims court and after a few weeks they were returned with a refund.

And what do you consider a reasonable price?
