Really I should just get rid of the vx but man maths says it's going up so a good investment, I like the vw option however the road tax sucks!!!! Suppose pre 2006 would be fine tho

Pathfinder :D I love driving her my new car  only 500 a year to tax and 20mpg but it's good!

I would of thought anything with a 2l Diesel would do the trick, depends how far your going.

Can't get rid of the VX, what would you put in the garage instead?!

And then he'll look like a pikey lol. What's the laden weight of the caravan? That will immediately rule out loads of cars as ideally you want it no more that 3/4 of the vehicles max towing weight. I have done 1/1 but the poor car struggled lol. Diesel, obviously. Thing is, if your gonna use as a daily then buying a mahoosive 4x4 just kills you on fuel and road tax for the 11 odd months when your not towing. Personally I'd look at an A4, Passat or similar size where you can return decent mileage even when towing. There is no such thing as having a cool car when towing a caravan lol. If it's just being used for towing then spend a few grand and buy a decent nick series 3 Disco or a Kia Sorento. Will pull any caravan at 80 on the motorways (sorry, I mean 60....) and still does 20 plus mpg. manual or Auto. I towed with both and after burning out 2 clutches went for Auto but obviously you lose mpg and its a personal choice if you can live with it. Or sell the caravan and have a proper holiday :D

Do you want to look like a Pikey, old man, rich man roughing it, or real caravan enthusiast. You will be judged pulling up at caravan sites by what you tow with, especially by us motorhomers :D I would have a KIA 4 x 4 thing if it were me

Mondeo is the answer.  thumbsup

Highest towing capacity of that size car at 1800kg compared to the majority of them at 1400-1600kg.

Massive boot to stick sh*t in too.

We are all mincing around here, so time someone was honest. Just sell the fcuking caravan and write it off as a bad judgement.

The knobs is right though, you do get judged by other caravaners by what you tow with. And what awning you've got, how old your van is, when you get up, when you empty your toilet, how loud you are, how many novelty kites you can fly from a pole next to your awning, whether your awning is carpeted and heated etc etc At one point I had a combined tow car/caravan that cost me well over 40k. At that point I gave it up and had proper holidays

Discovery - Superb tow car & Comfy

Downside is it's thirsty but who cares if you're in comfort and enjoy what you're driving.
