I visited and motorsport company today for a small job doing on my other car and while we were chatting I told the guy about the VX220 I had just bought and asked him his views on how to make it into a track monster.

I like the Audi 1.8 engine in my other car but I don't like the big turbo kit as it is just a bit too wild, so he suggested a standard Audi turbo engine which would put out about 250bhp. Ideal I am thinking.

My co-pilot suggested the Honda NA engine which also sounds good....so I am sure we are not the first people to have these demonic thoughts....has it been done?

Is there an Audi or Honda powered car out there?

There's both But If you only want 250bhp Either stage 2 turdo or stage 2 sc depending on whether you have a turbo or Na

Yep, 250bhp would be FAR easier and cheaper just to supercharge what you have.

Plus there are heaps of people here who can help you with:

An Audi/Honda engine swap will make life a little more difficult as although it's been done (and there are some great threads on it), not many people have the expertise to support you in doing it and troubleshooting issues afterwards.

Deffo supercharge what you have if you want 250 bhp, it will transform your NA. Doing so will be easy, relatively cheap, low risk (probably bug free). Take a passenger ride in one first, to see if you can cope with the whine (though this can be largely muted with an enclosed airbox).

As above really just not worth it for the power you want stick with standard engine and supercharge it.

The conversion route is expensive, and time consuming. Mine I still feel was worth it but I have a little more than 250bhp.

If you are interested read about it in my project thread linked in my sig, I did cover my history with the car and why I did what I did.

There's plenty engine options for 250bhp from the existing Ecotec engine, whether NA, SC or turbo, and it can be reasonably characterful in some cases.. So as above, unless you really want the VAG engine, or already have one sitting there doing nothing, there little point in the added complication and potential negative effect on future sale value (as you can see from recent cars for sale, the SC route does tend to almost pay for itself in increased vehicle sale value). It's also a little heavier than than the Ecotec..

Weight of 2.0tfsi engine + gearbox is about the same as a 2.0zlet (with balancer shaft delete, lighter pistons and rods and lighter flywheel)+ gearbox. So actually a touch lighter for the standard engine+gearbox. Weighed it personally back to back with Dave H's car, there was nothing in it that couldn't be accounted for with the fuel load.

Also mine before conversion with 20L of fuel = 916kg

After with 30L of fuel and addition of a charge cooler which adds about 15-17kg I believe, bigger front calipers and discs = 931kg
