Hi Everyone,

RE:  VXT/ Reg. KE03 HJG/ Build No.6764

This will be me first post.  I wondered if anyone knew anything about this car:-

http://www.pistonhea...oadster/3098004

It has been on Pistonheads and Autotrader for a while - I am suprised it hasn't been snapped up; what's wrong with it (aside from the white vinyl and smoked tail lights)

The salesman I spoke to didn't seem to know much about the model, but he did reveal the cambelt was last replaced in 2011, so I am aware the cambelt, water pump etc are due + there is a small gap in the service history.  I get the feeling it may have seen a bit of track action.

Please can i have your thoughts - do you think its worth £12k, I was thinking more like £11k bearing in mind it will need the above straight away and there will probably be other bits that need doing.

Cheers

Jon

I think you answered it yourself. I'm not surprised it's still for sale.

IMO I would steer away. 12k is a healthy budget that will get you a good one. This one just doesn't look right.....it looks awful.

Try pm'ing the previous owner on here....it wouldn't be for me but there you go. They've definitely dropped the price by at least 1k over the past few months. http://www.vx220.org...r/?fromsearch=1

Lights are expensive to change back to normal , an with your budget of 12 you'd easy get a really nice one for that.

It's my one .. I part exchanged it for a Evora S

If anyone wants any info on it just ask me ... The Marlboro theme won't suit everyone but the car mechanically is excellent with all the right bits

It needs at minimum:

- Front end respray to return it to red

- Ears painting red

- Wheels powder coating grey / black to match the windscreen surround.

- Rear spoiler removing and the holes in the clam patching up

- New rear lenses

If it were me, I'd also want to:

- remove that front splitter and put originals back on

- put proper wing mirrors back on

- remove the K&N

- fit a new spark plug cover.

- Fit a 'V' grille, and paint it black

All that will set you back around £2k, which on top of the £12k asking price, would make it one of the most expensive VX's in the country....

I think everyone so far has commented that THEY don't like the look of it due to vinyl / white wheels / blacked out rear lights, but honestly that says nothing about the actual condition of the car beyond cosmetic stuff that may appeal to someone..

Its likely it isn't selling because it looks daft, but if you se past that and like the car and some of the parts fitted, it could be the one for you.

For the rear lights, someone on here was selling replacement rear lenses for not a massive amount.

All depends how much potential DIY effort you put in..

As usual, dealer advert is cack (as most of them know little about these cars), and mostly worthless...

Go and see it, offer 11k if you like the look of it, the photos don't look as bad as some of the comments above.

Keeping it as is and enjoy it, im sure you would love it, returning it to a std look then as above but if you like the look go for it!

Think its been spotted at Brands (wasn't on track at the time)

Thank you for all your comments.  I am still rather tempted and the dealer is prepared to go to £11.5k.  The main thing for me, assuming its mechanically sound, will be to replace the smoked lenses and remove the white vinyl bits to red. I actually think the wheels will look okay if the rest of the car is all red (I know they will be a b**ch to clean).

I've seen this in the flesh (brands hatch), was okay nothing major but not the kind of condition I would say is very good for a VX as many tend to be well looked after I remember this up for sale for £14k but no one bought it so he has lowered it a fair bit already

Don't forget taking the wrap off will destroy the paint , so you will need the front end painted .

Ha ha, why not, everyone seems to really like it, I'd imagine resale values will be really strong, no idea why they've had to lower the price.......😱

Why don't you put a wanted thread on here, 12k should get you a pretty nice car.
