Hi,

So I thought I would do the balancer shaft deletion mod. But since the kit is no longer available at Courtenay and the OEM spare parts are very expensive I followed some advice I read on different forums - getting the components from an X20XEV engine (before year 2000 when they too got a balancer shaft).

I found a scrapped Vectra from 1997 with the 2.0 liter engine and removed the baffle, the girdle and the oil pickup. The oil pickup doesn't look like the one in the photo of the kit at Courtenay though:

The filter of my pickup is much smaller and looks more like the one in this photo:

So my question is: Can I use this oil pickup and if not, which one should I get and from which engine? I've read that the X20XEV (before year 2000) would be good but now I'm confused. The smaller filter in the oil pickup worries me.

The last photo is from this thread: http://www.corsaspor....php?tid=652237

There he is recommended to swap the pickup to one from a Z20LER engine. If I have to do that too, then I think it got way more complicated and expensive.

By complicated I mean it will be more complicated to find a scrapped car with the Z20LER engine.

Or is it the X20XEV engine only between 98-99 that is OK? Ie from the introduction year of Astra G (98) till it too got balancer shafts (2000). My questions are endless!! ;)

It was saying 'out of stock' for several weeks and now it's been removed from the site, afaik.

EDIT Well now I found it but it still says out of stock.

Yeah it said out of stock on the website when I looked but rang up and they'd had 5 kits delivered that day. Not sure if the website was ever updated.

For future reference. I simply kept the original oil pickup and used the legs from the pickup of the donor engine as extensions.

I didn't notice any differences except more vibrations at idle. I don't think the mod is worth the money that a balancer shaft kit costs, but for £10 at the scrap yard and some new bolts and gaskets, why not ;)
