Programme on the light-weight E-type on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight.

In 1963 Jaguar took the blueprint for its era-defining E-Type sports car and made a racing version. The Lightweight was a no-frills racer with a bigger engine and aluminium bodywork – but only 12 were made. This film finds one for sale today at a London dealer for approaching £5 million. And as presenter Mark Evans discovers, Jaguar has decided to serve the appetite for the car by building six new ones, pre-sold to super-rich collectors for more than £1 million each. Evans finds the production process is both painstaking and mildly disaster-prone in a very British way – just as you would hope.

Same here.

If I was spending a million quid on a car I don't think it would be my choice

Was ok, never go into as much detail about the build as I'd like.

Not a great program. As usual they were more interested in the wealth of the buyers than the car. Funny that you'd spend a million quid on one but wouldn't qualify for historic races.

I always find this with programs of this type. It is always nice to see the workmanship that they put into it though. The e-type has never made my pants tingle though and I wish they'd move on from it.

Just watching this repeated, it is all about trying to convince you about how fastidious all involved is & the buyer? I've just found out the MD where I work has forked out for a 1964 Series 1 e-type at an auction in Italy? Not been privileged to drive any of his other car purchases, so don't expect I'll get a go in the e-type? Just allows me to unload them off containers when they've come in from the USA & Japan. Damn, that's the bigger risk, fastened down, all no charge in batteries & disconnected. Plus anything that ain't a Paul Smith mini, you have no alternative than to climb in the cars through the windows.
