Just doing a suspension rebuild and wanted to gather opinion on the above. Yes I have done a search, but wanted one last poll... Car is an NA and will only be used on road, current Billies aren't great hence the plan to upgrade. So what are the main pros and cons of gaz vs Nitron: Gaz: Lower cost, Improved performance over billies. Some issues with failures in the past. Well understood and used by forum users. Nitrons, More expensive (+£200) Better performance, but wil it be noticed on the road? I am leaning towards gaz, as it will be only used for fast road use at the most. Am I missing anything I need to consider in my argument.... Remember, I am not after a track monster... Mat

You pay for what you get at the end of the day. That £200 saving will soon be spent with the down time when you need to send your gaz shocks off for warranty work or upgrade. You'll not notice anything between the two on road. It'll come down to spring rate you spec with either.

What from I've heard, Nitron's are a far better product. Do you really want to be buying something that so many have had issues with and which Gaz themselves have acknowledged?

How much more are the Quantums? As these now seem to be the staple.

Zeros would be my choice but money seems to be the limiting factor here. Then agin they're the same as nitron street series.

The nitrons are mono tube, gaz are twin tube. The nitrons are going to be more durable - given the failure's of Gaz dampers I wouldn't use them. One thing to consider is if the street series spring rates are high enough for your intended use. I've got the original Street series which have stiffer springs than the current model and with the damping wound down, they're perfect for road use. The Gaz can be specced to a spring rate of your choice.

Mate of mine uses Nitron street and they are excellent on road and track. I've only experienced GAZ on track and the car was all over the shop. I would recommend the nitron or Quantum zero if you can afford it, but budget a good geo after fittin, that'll be more important than which shocks you use.

I had Gaz Gold Pro 2's, and changed to Nitron NTR - so can't comment on street series I'm afraid.

When I had the Gaz on my car it was a really harsh ride (425/475 springs). Painfully harsh on the road no matter how I tried to adjust the damping. Fine on the track though. I changed the springs to 325/400 and it was only marginally better. It might have just been something peculiar to my car, but they didn't work well on the road at all for me.

Once the Nitrons were on there (400/475 springs) it was transformed on the road. No more crashing over bumps. The car was loads quieter and lovely to drive once again. Been fine on track as well.

This might just be peculiar to my car but thought I'd pass it on nonetheless.

I've recently upgraded mine to Nitron Streets. Considered the Zeros but couldn't really justify paying the extra. Knew from the start I didn't want to go cheap with the Gazs. The Nitrons are a quality middle of the road product IMO. I got mine from SeriouslyLotus which where the best price available by far at £787 delivered and that included the brackets and new bolts thrown in. Excellent service from them and very pleased with the adjustability and quality of them so far.

I've had my GAZ's rebuilt twice and in the end they gave me new ones.  Their customer service is very good, but you really shouldn't need to contact them as often as you end up doing.

If you're going with GAZ - keep your oem billies as a backup to put back on the car for when you send back the GAZ's!

I had the same dilemma and decided to wait and save up for nitrons. I was worried about the failures (although heard their customer service is excellent). Luckily a set of nitrons came up for sale on here so why not post a wanted ad? You might be lucky and find a second hand set of nitrons for the price of gaz?

I don't understand people even considering such a vital part to be bought from a known failing brand.

Even for a street car.

Suspension and toe links.

Don't skim out on those.
