Hi all, just wondering if anyone has installed 320mm front disks from an astra vxr to the front of their vx and spaced out the caliper to suit? Any reason it can't be done? I know the vectra/saab 308mm upgrade is popular with 10mm caliper spacers and it was what I was going to do but thought why not go bigger if possible. My car is purely a track car and i can't stretch to the 4 pot upgrades just yet so thought I'd try a less expensive upgrade. Thanks.

Will you have to make sure you have the correct wheel size to make room for the Caliper?

I recently discovered that the Alfa 159 discs (330mm diam) fit the hub, so have used these in my front brake conversion. You can buy these discs for just £15 !!! Some machining/bracketery would be required to offset the calipers. Have a look at my project thread if you are interested. Good lick.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have a few sets of 17's so will give it a shot. The vxr disks are same height and center bore as the 220, so should only need to space the caliper out radially I guess.

You might find you're only using two thirds of the pads on a disk that size as they may overlap the edge of the disk due to how far the caliper needs spacing.

This. The oem calipers will be specced for a 270-290ish mm diameter disc. When I fitted the 308 discs the pads were missing the disc by a couple of mm at the apex, great for keeping the lip off but not great for actual friction material to take the heat and longevity. IMHO you'd want differen calipers for the bigger discs over 308mm

Never thought on it that way before, Might not be such a great idea without changing caliper after all. Thanks for the input!

What benefit do you expect from the bigger disks?

Not only that, but I am sure with enough use you would end up with the reverse lip... Where the disc has eaten into the pad and that would have a disc shaped lip on each corner.
