One way or another I'm going to own one of these in the next few years. Just can't make the finances work at the moment. So I've been looking at salvage on eBay and this ones come up at what seems a reasonable price, but I have no idea what I'd be looking at to repair it. Any thoughts ? http://pages.ebay.co...lobalID=EBAY-GB

probably looking at £1k each clam and £350 each bumper, plus lights, plus usual hidden stuff and paintwork, so budget for £5-7k parts and £1.5k paint

kerbed front right wheel

also the spare parts situation from Lotus is dire , you could be waiting 6 months+ to get bits

clams are a lot more than £1K these days, more like £2K+ then paint (which usually means a few hours of prep as the clams are less than perfect).

A front and rear clam for an Evora will cost you just short of £7.5k. A pair of bumpers is approx £1600 and a pair of headlamps are close on £2000 so theres over £11k in parts already then other unseen parts and could be a parts bill of £12.5k plus paint so you could be up for a bill of  £14 to £14.5k plus the £16k purchase and you've got a cat D silver Evora with 37000 miles on it for £30k. You can buy a straight one in a better colour with less miles for a grand more.

That's major depreciation for a car of the Evora class? Over priced from the start? I was just about to give a stupid guestimation low side of £20k for a repair job on a car of that class & I read this. The fascination of getting hold a "cheap" quality car is disappearing rapidly imho.

There's a reason this car is a Cat D. As above, price of clams!

As a DIY job, with some good deals on used parts, it might be worth it.

It's prob not going to be worth much more than £20-22k though once complete. Seen a few used examples with similar mileage for £27-28K

the prices I quoted are based upon secondhand parts being sold on ebay this morning  thumbsup

if you want to buy new parts then you can easily triple the bill

Would be a good opportunity to sort out the god awful back end looks of the Evora. If it were an SC one, Id be tempted. I recon Id be dead good n that with fibreglassing

The two red blotches on the back end are too small and far apart, plus there are too many bulgey bits. Its nice and cosy on the inside though, and from the front doesn't look too offensive.

Same goes for the Lotus

  For me, it's the rear 3/4 view (looking from front 1/4) that just looks out of proportion because of squeezing the engine and rear seats in.

Everything rearward of the wing mirrors looks all wrong to my eyes. Shame, as I want to like it more... The GTE version is a big step in the right direction, looks wise, whereas the Evora 400 is a massive step in the wrong direction.

This one looks a better bet - although I'd want to go over it with a fine tooth comb and with someone who knows these cars well. http://www.pistonhea...-4-2010/4360457

Given a straight evora with any sniff of doggy past about it is a mare to sell/cheap, I'd not go near a rebuild project due to high prices on parts etc.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.  Vocky is right about used parts prices on ebay.  Maybe it could be done for a sensible price.  There's enough uncertainty that I'd probably not take the chance.  Plus, since I got my VX back from Matt Bentley I've fallen in love again and don't think I could sell it.

I agree with a lot of comments on the styling but I'm getting used to the car, and the only other car that comes close to fitting the bill of being a mid/rear engined sports car with rear seats for the kids at under £30K is a 997, and as much as I know they are great cars I just don't want a car that is so common place, or that has such potentially expensive engine problems.  I love the rarity of the Evora in the same way I love the rarity of the VX.
