Sorry guys but after a little help on what I should do, I have a vxt and want to upgrade the suspension , I don't think I will ever do a track day more just fast road, but what can you recommend and is there anything else I should do at the same time if I am going to change it. Ps who is it worth taking it to, to get this work done and set up, I don't mind travelling Thanks

You need to decide what sort of road surface you want to "tune" to IMO. The OEM setup is ace for B-road bashing, saps up most road surface defects well. I'd only think about increasing springs + bounce rates if you want to drive on smoother surfaces and maybe higher speeds. What is it that makes you want to change what you have already? If your shocks, springs, joints are still original, then maybe a refurb of them all would regain a nice tight car. It's easy to get caught up in the "more is better" that is sold to us by the automotive marketing wheels. However several very clever people set the VX220 up to handle (admittedly as a middle ground compromise) for road driving. Changing from the OEM setup needs to be done with a clear purpose in mind IMO, with awareness of both the pros and cons.

Sachs are very good for road usage, but you can also get Nitrons or Quantums non adjustables. Try and avoid the cheaper end of the market, you get what you pay for.

The front shocks are leaking a little, and I was not sure weather to move to a different type, fast road is mainly what I will be using the car for. Never been really happy with it but if refurb would help then that might be a good idea but looking at the price to do that I could change to after market one so very unsure what to do

Why not just get some new turbo shocks from lotus motorsport auctions. £130 +vat for a pair of new turbo shocks. Need to reuse you springs or buy new Eibach springs. Just bought the front and rear springs and dampers for my NA as the standard suspension is fine for my road use and I have no intention of lowering or going 16" front wheels.

The springs certainly, due to the turdo's extra weight.

With all your interrest in NA versus turdo parts, feel free to have a browse through the parts catalogue

Z22SE is NA, and Z20LET is turdo.

If there's better than standard, I'm yet to try them.  There's enough damping to prevent wallow over undulations, but enough movement to swallow most imperfections.  The spring rates are stiff enough to prevent any bottoming but soft enough to allow you to move the weight around the car.

Lotus' R+D dept isn't world regarded for nothing, as neither are Bilstein's standard fit on Porsche RS because they're cheap.

I'm buying a new set.  I don't think we'll be able to obtain new springs (other than through Vx) as they're not a standard ID

I quite like the standard bilsteins for the road, just a shame there isn't any springs to fit that would lower the car a touch, or at least there wasn't the last time I searched.

1, Move the spring seat - if there aren't alternative grooves already cut, have some machined in

2, Take a hacksaw to your springs

3, Faulkner (and probably others) will wind you any spring you want.

See the lotus motorsport auctions thread in the discussion forum or here http://www.motorspor...=home&store=710 Need to buy springs separate for the tubby dampers.
