Car was in for a service and when everything was finished and ready to be collected, as the technician moved the car out of the workshop the EML came on and the car was revving randomly for 10-30 seconds and then the throttle was unresponsive. He plugged in an OBD and came up with code P1514.

Tried a search on this but for some reason the search function is broken on here and google not throwing up too much in the way of help.

As a throttle related problem I went through the following checks with the garage and had them clean and check:

- Blue and black plugs behind header tank

- ECU plugs

- Throttle body plugs

- Accelerator pedal connection

The EML light is now off and I'm going to pick up the car today, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this code and if I can expect any further problems...

Thanks.

Well, it wasn't the loom of doom...

EML stayed off for about 2 mins, then constant revs around 1.5k-1.75k for another few minutes and then no throttle response and a rough idle and top speed of about 5mph.

Now sending the ECU off for diagnostic and repair if necessary, if it's not that then I guess it's a new throttle body required.

IMHO,the throttle body is massively massively unlikely to fail (willing to be proved wrong but hey)

Yep, it's an NA.

Thanks for the offer and I will be in touch if it turns out the ECU is fine, nothing happening for the next 2 weeks at least though as I'm off on holiday.

TBH I suspect something is up with the ECU, last year I had a bizarre issue where something was up with the ECU/imobiliser and the car wasn't recognising the keys and Vauxhall were not able to do anything to reprogram or reset it for some reason. Then as if by magic it randomly started working again with nothing done specifically to resolve it.

This is all made more difficult by the fact my German is pretty poor and my mechanic doesn't speak good English!

If I understood my mechanic correctly, then it's going off to an Opel specialist that he has contact with. Not sure if it's a actual Opel garage or just an approved independent but he said he's used them before and they have all the right software to diagnose and reprogram/reset it if needed.

The terminals in my LOD plugs were weak (the internal spring loses its springiness) so I had to replace the terminals to fix it.  Same symptoms as you describe.  The terminals are pretty cheap thumbsup

They come from vehicle wiring products.  they're about 20p each, its the postage that hurts!

From here? http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/

Could I ask you to please point me to the specific ones I need as there's loads on that site and I suck at this sort of thing.

As an update, I just got back from my holiday and they cannot diagnose if there is anything wrong with the ECU to fix... So my solution is to replace the LOD terminals, if that doesn't work then replace the TB and finally if that does nothing then I'm out of ideas.

I'd need to look at what I have to point you at the right ones.  You probably won't need to replace them all though.  If you unplug the blue and black plugs then pull off the yellow mesh thats inside the plug you'll be able to look in at the terminals.  Look at the female terminals and you'll see a spring part inside.  This becomes weak and looses it's springiness which you'll see as it being bent back.  You can do a short term fix of bending it back into shape with a pin.  Ultimately it will need replacing.

Might be these but I'll need to check

Okay so all wires, plugs and connections have been checked, the throttle body has been replaced and still no luck...

This means I have to go down the new ECU route. Can anyone recommend a place to get a kit and if it is easy or not to install?

I have found something here www.vauxhall-ecu.com which promises to send an ECU, immobiliser transponder ring, 2 x transponder key chip and a security car pass. Apparently everything will be set up specifically for my car as I would send them my VIN no. in advance for them to correctly calibrate. Ebay feedback is in the thousands and very positive. Has anyone used these guys and got any advice.

Thanks.

1514 has been reported here with the following causes:

- scangauge set to showing more then 3 values - faulty injector - faulty map sensor

It's probably not the first one, but could you get the other 2 checked before taking the ecu route?

After an incredibly lazy winter where all I managed to achieve is to confirm that I am utterly hopeless at even attempting to fix cars I still have this problem.

Due to language barriers I'm basically giving up on Germany and transporting the car back to the UK (if I can't find an English speaking speedster garage in the Netherlands).

Can anyone recommend a garage that can fix this problem? Or any heroic forum member want to offer their services?

I'm totally fed up with this issue, I can't fix it and the garages in Hamburg can't fix it and I can't communicate properly with them to offer advice from here.
