No, they are laser cut from soft aluminium and do not have the raised ridge.  I spoke to this chap a couple of months ago and he seemed a really genuine sort.  They are a small garage and got these made to deal with a leaky VX220 which they had in for service and have been selling them off Ebay ever since.  He suggests using the thinnest smear of RTV to make sure they seal and that worried me slightly as you do not want any of that in the mechanicals but that said, he says they have been using them without any problems so it's another option!

I have been tied up with work this last week or so, but will be making a new batch of the graphite ones soon.... As apex said a little care is needed when fitting as they are more fragile than the metal ones - but as they are softer they will seal much easier than the original ones...

Just back from sunny Croatia.

Oil leak I sorted (was just the top that was leaking not the sandwich gasket (had to get a new seal as the one in there just wouldn't seal!?), broken exhaust manifold bolt sorted (though it cost me a chunk as I couldn't do it and it involved manifold off) and two other leaking coolant pipes found, but car 'should' now be in a position for me to try driving it again and try to get it run in.

Not been the best of starts so fingers crossed things go ok from now on.

Vocky said it was the upper so I didn't send the ones I have. I have located them though.

 

It says they are made in the UK. As anyone found the original company that makes them and spoken directly to them? There's a million different numbers on the original packaging.

I'm talking to three gasket specialists at the moment, two have indicated that they will supply prototypes for testing but these may not be metal as they all say the original is difficult to replicate due to it's raised ridge.  I have asked Vauxhall to tell me who made the originals but they say they can't due to contractual problems.  I would love to identify the original makers, is there anything on your packaging that helps?

I just bought the last remaning in belgium 3 seals. When they arrive i look on the sticker if there is Some more info on it.

I've just bought the last 2 from a vauxhall parts website so ill see what they have on them.

I have a pair too, supplied direct from Vauxhall to help with sorting new gaskets.  They are in their original sachets, covered in numbers etc but no clue as to the original maker.  I think they may well have been made for Vauxhall by a specialist gasket maker and then repackaged by Vauxhall before distribution to the dealer network.  Hopefully there may be one with some identifier with it or on it.

The few Vauxhall parts gaskets I have purchased from my local dealer have got the AUTOMEGA DALLO name on the packaging with the genuine Vauxhall - Opel logo details and part numbers. Done a search and found this company in Germany. I have looked at the spare gasket I have and there is not details imprinted in the gasket. Well they must have changed supplier as a few years ago I was told they came from a manufacturer in Brazil, hence why there was a large delay between production and delivery. Whether the Vauxhall customer contact centre were just spinning yarn is another matter.

Thanks for your thoughts chaps!  My pair also say made in UK but there is also a logo that looks like the crescent of a micrometer without the barrel.  The only company I can find that sort of fits is Costex Tractor Parts in the USA but they are Caterpillar specialists and their logo is different!  Have also looked at Automega/Dallo/Dello and they seem to be retailers and factors rather than manufacturers.  Still no news from the three specialists I spoke to last week, have spoken today to another gasket maker and they think they can do a corrugated gasket in aluminium or copper and coat with either graphite or PTFE.  That sounds promising as we could also go a little thicker on the core metal and make the thing rather more robust.  Drawings, photos etc have gone off today, more when I have it.
