I got asked to make a console to hold a couple of gauges for a friends VX like the one I made for the Exige, but it didnt look right so I'm trying to make something that suits the VX better.

The gauges shown below are just cheap backlit analog ones I had lying around, this would prob look better with digital gauges.

(It fits without any drilling or damage to the interior btw)

Opinions?

Looks very good. What material is it? Is it intereference fit? I wonder how it would look with the triangles cut through (minimal weight look).

It's 1.5mm aviation kydex plastic sides screwed to an alloy bracket top and bottom. It is an interference fit, but would need double sided tape or Velcro to secure it. The sides could be cut out to see the wiring etc, which I personally like, but I want it to be easily reproduced.

I did originally make a similar one in aluminium, but it just didn't look part of the car.

Sure you've got a cupholder! I could fit an optic with a bottle of Jack Daniels in it if you wanted :)

Thanks for the feedback it's spurred me on to do something with this.

So a couple of suggestions ... If we use digital gauges I can make it thinner.... and a prominent member has offered to send me a VX centre brace so I can use exactly the same side profiles to give it some authenticity.

Below is the Exige one I made with digi gauges, this had combined oil pressure/boost pressure, air/fuel ratio and a shift light behind the perspex.

The reason the VX one is mounted higher is because you couldn't actually see the Exige one when driving without leaning over....though it looks great.

Yes, the guy doing the work has contacted me, looks like it's heading for 400bhp.. which will be interesting!

He is friendly with the lads at Pro Alloy A lot of the ideas have come from their Audi conversions

Love it. More black is good :) What's the leg impedance like? I'm over 6ft and when I rest my foot my knee normally goes in that space.

I'm 6'1 with a 34" inside leg and its fine, the taper towards the bottom helps.... Though my seats are all the way back and angled with 12mm spacers on the front :)

I'm going a different way with this now and aiming to make it more like the original centre brace and with a moulded front to accept surface mounted gauges at the suggestion of a couple of ppl.

I'm away for a few days now, but looking forward to mocking it up in the car.
