Hi!

I might found the replacement to the original Lotus "orange" sealant. Acc. to my on-line research it might be the 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ EC-9323 B/A http://multimedia.3m...ld-9323-b-a.pdf. And I really eager to try it, also because I have some places where I want to use it :) But these are sold only in UK and apparently no one from the distributors want to ship it to Norway.

May someone who will order / try these for himself buy one for me and send it?! I will highly appriciate it!

I'm not sure it's that as the original stuff was baked to cure hence the thermal stickers on the tub.  It does look good though.  Shipping from the UK is very restricted for potentially flammable or harmful chemicals so you might want to try looking round for a shipper first.  You could then arrange your own pick up and dispatch.

The original material was made by CIBA, eventually with this area being owned by Dow http://www.dowautomo...ly/betamate.htm

The stuff used for the chassis is http://www.dow.com/en-us/markets-and-solutions/products/betamate/betamatexd4600  now replaced with http://www.dowautomotive.com/products/betamate/4601.htm

Personally, I would consider using this http://www.dowautomo...tamate/2096.htm as it appears to be designed for bodyshop repair and therefore should work in lower temperatures. info - http://msdssearch.do...fromPage=GetDoc

Would be nice to get a link on the net shop with possibility to ship it worldwide :) As I was not able to find the Betamate stuff available for sale.

And I started to search for the 3M professional solution.

An update on the research, on this link you can see the technical datasheet (it was quite challenging to find it, I would say) for the DOW products

https://www.google.n...113370389,d.bGs

And shear strength for the BM 4601 (the one which was used for the chassis) is only 26.6 MPa.

Knowing this you can search and apply equivalent adhesives which are not less than that.

For me I chose 3M product mentioned above (30 MPa average), as the replacement I would also recommend the Hysol 9394 (28 MPa).

Both are used in the aero industry and both are oil resistant.

Hope that this will be useful and will help to save more VX’s chassis.

3M 9323 is used to hold F1 chassis' together, and used on all structual joints that dont see beyond 120 degrees. At which point the strength of 9323 degrades. Always wondered if 9323 could be used on the chassis. It can be oven cured at a low temperature, thoughwe usually use 60ish for 2 hours.
