Hi all. A couple of questions,

 

When people machine hubs do increase negative camber do they machine the hun carrier or the ball joint block?

 

When you send your wishbones and hub carriers to the powder coaters do they cover the faces that don't want coating like where the bushes or bearings mount to or do you have to clean them up afterwards?

I had the balljoint block machined and masked off the important faces

The faces that are used for ball joints etc have heat restart masking tape put on them.

How much camber are you using atm (front and rear) and how much are you aiming for George ?

I masked mine myself and then had them powder coated. The guys that did it knew I was going to be fussy and blasted them, handed them back and let me mask them.

 

When I say knew I'd be fussy, I've done quite a bit with them and we had an understanding. Just have a chat with the people you are using and you will get a feel for what they are like.

2.8 rear 0.8 front. I'm not sure what I'm aiming for yet I'm going to have a play. I've got no shims left so I'm machining the rear and fitting the EP steering arms on the front. I was thinking 2 front 3 rear and play from there. Do we all agree on machining the ball joint block then?

I should be able to skim the ball joint blocks for you.  I'd need one to check that I can clamp it adequately.  If you have time for me to have a look drop them round but if you're in a hurry probably best get them done at a machine shop.

Are youdoing daily street driving? How is your rear tire deeling with 3 deg negative camber angle?

Cheers for the offer but i did them my self at work today. If i knew you had a miller then i would of come and pestered you as its a lot closer than our workshop is down in Oxford.

Max's car is track only. Ive ran 2.8 negative camber on the rear for the best part of 4 years now and mine have always worn evenly. Ive done the highland hoon and plenty of long motorway trips to get to trackdays. if its getting used on the road the majority of the time then it will wear the inside edge and theres very little point in running that much camber.

No problem I have a vertical slide for the lathe so small bits like this are fine. Can't do anything big. I could do with a proper mill I just need to make space!
